Vespa Launches Bold New Era in Costa Rica with Premium Store and Nationwide Expansion

San José, Costa Rica — The iconic Italian scooter brand Vespa is gearing up for a dynamic new chapter in Costa Rica. Through a strategic alliance with local automotive powerhouse Grupo Suki & ALC, the brand is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the country’s premium two-wheeler market. This partnership marks a significant shift in Vespa’s local distribution, promising an expanded model lineup, a wider national footprint, and robust after-sales support for existing owners.

Grupo Suki & ALC officially took over the exclusive representation of Vespa in Costa Rica in July 2026. By incorporating this legendary brand, the group strengthens its already formidable market position. The conglomerate is well-known in the region as the representative of Suzuki Motos, along with seven other prominent motorcycle and marine engine brands, bringing deep operational experience and established commercial infrastructure to Vespa’s local operations.

To better understand the legal framework and commercial implications surrounding the distribution of iconic mobility brands like Vespa in Costa Rica, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a leading legal expert from the prestigious firm Bufete de Costa Rica.

The expansion of prestigious brands like Vespa in the Costa Rican market highlights the critical importance of robust distribution contracts and intellectual property protections. Under Costa Rican commercial law, establishing clear exclusive dealership agreements and ensuring compliance with local vehicle safety and importation regulations are paramount. For international manufacturers to thrive here, they must navigate these regulatory frameworks diligently to safeguard both their brand equity and their local consumer relationships.

A central pillar of the brand’s revitalized strategy is the construction of a brand-new, standalone Vespa Store in La Uruca, San José. Strategically located adjacent to the current Suzuki Center and 200 meters west of COSEVI, this flagship facility is scheduled to open its doors to the public by late October 2026. The store will be entirely dedicated to the Vespa lifestyle, offering enthusiasts a curated space to experience Italian design and heritage firsthand.

The incorporation of Vespa into our portfolio represents a strategic step in the growth of Grupo Suki & ALC
José Andrés Montalto, General Manager of Grupo Suki & ALC

According to Montalto, the significant financial investment in the upcoming La Uruca flagship store reflects the group’s long-term vision for the Italian brand in Costa Rica. The goal is not just to sell scooters, but to cultivate a premium community around the iconic brand, backed by reliable corporate support and exceptional customer service.

To ensure widespread accessibility, the distribution network will extend far beyond the capital. Vespa models will be available for purchase at existing showrooms in La Uruca, Paseo Colón, El Carmen de Cartago, Limón, and Pérez Zeledón. Additionally, the brand will leverage a network of more than 25 authorized dealership points across the country, making it easier for buyers outside the central valley to acquire these premium scooters.

The Costa Rican product catalog will feature a diverse range of models tailored to different rider preferences. Customers can choose from the commuter-friendly VXL 150, the classic Primavera 150, the sporty Sprint 150, as well as the high-powered GTS 300 and GTV 300. This variety ensures that both urban commuters and long-distance touring enthusiasts find a model that fits their lifestyle.

For collectors and brand purists, the partnership is also importing highly sought-after special editions. These include the GTS 300 80th anniversary edition, commemorating eight decades of Vespa heritage, the exclusive GTV Officina 8, and the ultra-limited, numbered Vespa 946 Horse. To build long-term consumer trust, all new motorcycles will come with a standard two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Crucially, the transition also addresses the needs of current Vespa owners. Grupo Suki & ALC has already begun offering comprehensive maintenance and repair services at its La Uruca facility. Outstandingly, these services are available to all Vespa owners in Costa Rica, regardless of where or when their vehicles were originally purchased, showcasing a strong commitment to strengthening after-sales trust from day one.
