By San José, Costa Rica — Barrio Escalante, a vibrant hub of San José’s culinary scene, is currently hosting the “Flavors of the African Diaspora” FoodFest, a delicious celebration of Afro-Costa Rican culture. Running until August 31st, the FoodFest forms a key part of the 27th annual Flores de la Diáspora Africana Festival.
This unique culinary experience showcases the rich contributions of the Afro-descendant community to Costa Rican identity. Eight participating restaurants in Barrio Escalante have crafted special menus inspired by prominent figures in Afro-Costa Rican literature: Eulalia Bernard, Queen Nzinga, Quince Duncan, and Shirley Campbell.
