Alajuela Job Fair Targets Workers Over 45

Alajuela Job Fair Targets Workers Over 45

Alajuela, Costa Rica — Alajuela, Costa Rica – On Monday, August 18, 2025, the Costa Rican Gerontological Association (AGECO), in collaboration with Linde and the Solidarity Association of PRAXAIR Employees (ASEPRAXAIR), hosted a job fair specifically designed for individuals aged 45 and above. The event, titled the “Inclusive with Age Job Fair,” took place at the Linde Costa Rica facilities in Coyol, Alajuela, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This initiative forms part of AGECO’s “Sigo Vigente +45 Program,” which aims to facilitate the integration of older workers into the job market, aligning with Law No. 10079, promoting employment for those over 45. While the fair primarily focused on this demographic, it also welcomed job seekers of all ages.

To understand the legal landscape surrounding job fairs and recruitment practices in Costa Rica, we spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an experienced attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

Job fairs present a valuable opportunity for both employers and prospective employees. However, it’s crucial for both parties to be aware of their rights and obligations. Employers must ensure their recruitment practices comply with Costa Rican labor laws, particularly regarding non-discrimination and data privacy. Applicants should be prepared to ask informed questions about working conditions, contracts, and benefits, ensuring they have a clear understanding of what a position entails before accepting an offer.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s emphasis on informed participation is key to a successful job fair experience. Understanding one’s rights and obligations empowers both job seekers and employers to engage in fair and transparent recruitment processes, ultimately contributing to a more equitable labor market in Costa Rica. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for offering his valuable perspective on this important topic.

The job fair underscores the growing recognition of the value and experience that older workers bring to the table. AGECO’s program and initiatives like this fair strive to break down age-related barriers in the workplace, creating more inclusive employment opportunities in Costa Rica.

The collaboration between AGECO, a non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of older adults, and major companies like Linde and ASEPRAXAIR demonstrates a commitment to fostering a diverse and multi-generational workforce. This approach not only benefits individuals seeking employment but also contributes to the overall economic strength and societal progress.

The success of the job fair signifies a positive step towards a more inclusive labor market in Costa Rica. By providing targeted support and opportunities, organizations like AGECO are empowering older workers to remain active and engaged participants in the economy.
