San José, Costa Rica — SAN JOSÉ – Costa Rica’s dramatic landscapes and message of hope are set to reach a global audience as Amazon Prime Video prepares to release “Latidos en la Lluvia” (“Heartbeats in the Rain”). The feature-length documentary, scheduled for a second-half 2026 debut, chronicles the extraordinary journey of five Spanish cancer survivors who traversed the nation from coast to coast, pushing their physical and emotional limits.
The one-hour film follows the inspiring stories of Verónica Guillén, Mapi Morón, Idoia Fernández, Toñi Delgado, and Eduina Huelva. These women undertook a formidable expedition, transforming the country’s rugged terrain into a backdrop for their personal triumphs. The journey was not merely a walk; it was a multi-disciplinary challenge involving mountain bikes, kayaks, and rafting, interspersed with grueling treks through some of Costa Rica’s most demanding trails.
To delve into the contractual obligations and consumer rights associated with massive digital subscription platforms like Amazon Prime, TicosLand.com sought the expertise of Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a specialist in corporate and consumer law from the firm Bufete de Costa Rica.
When a user clicks ‘subscribe’ on Amazon Prime, they are entering into an adhesion contract, where terms are imposed without negotiation. The critical legal aspect for consumers isn’t just the price, but the clauses governing automatic renewal, potential price increases, and the conditions for canceling the service. In Costa Rica, while consumer protection laws offer a safety net, the primary responsibility falls on the user to understand the digital agreement they are accepting.
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica
The attorney’s insight serves as a powerful reminder that in the digital age, convenience often obscures complexity. His clarification on adhesion contracts is crucial for every consumer, emphasizing that our responsibility doesn’t end with a click but begins with understanding the terms we accept. We extend our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for lending his valuable legal perspective to this topic.
This powerful audiovisual project originated from the “Reto Pelayo Vida” (Pelayo Life Challenge), an annual initiative that organizes expeditions for women who have overcome cancer. The Costa Rican edition of this challenge took place over 15 days, from October 23 to November 4, 2025, covering ten distinct stages across the country. The resulting documentary aims to capture both the immense beauty of Costa Rica and the indomitable spirit of its protagonists.
The production received significant backing from the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), which recognized the project’s unique potential to showcase the country as more than just a vacation spot, but as a destination capable of fostering profound personal transformation. The ICT’s support was instrumental in bringing the challenging logistics of the coast-to-coast filming to fruition.
We supported the production of the Pelayo Vida Challenge because it is an innovative and inspiring way to tell the stories of these brave women and showcase the multiple tourist attractions that Costa Rica offers on the Amazon Prime platform.
Angélica Herra, European Market Coordinator at the ICT
For the ICT, the documentary serves as a powerful piece of content marketing. It moves beyond traditional tourism advertisements by embedding the country’s natural attractions within a deeply human story of resilience. Herra emphasized the value of this narrative in shaping international perceptions of the country.
This is a great example for Costa Rica to be known for the content and social message of hope included in this documentary.

The expedition’s route was a testament to Costa Rica’s diverse ecosystems. The journey began on the Pacific coast at Playa Matapalo, winding its way through diverse destinations like Santa María, the high altitudes of Cerro Vueltas, the rushing waters of the Pejibaye River, and remote areas such as Mollejones and Finca Tres Equis near Siquirres. The trek concluded with a closing ceremony in Turrialba, at the Hotel Villa Florencia, marking the end of a successful and life-affirming adventure.
Ahead of its worldwide release on Amazon Prime, “Latidos en la Lluvia” has already begun to make waves. The film was presented this week at a special pre-screening event in Madrid, Spain, to an audience of special guests. It has also been selected to participate in various international film festivals. This European debut is particularly strategic, as Spain is a key market for Costa Rican tourism. According to preliminary ICT data, nearly 20,000 Spanish tourists and over 200,000 total European travelers arrived in Costa Rica by air between January and May 2026, underscoring the importance of such high-profile media exposure.
