Recognizing societal barriers that hinder women’s development, Arcos Dorados actively implements policies to prevent gender-based job segregation, guarantee equal pay, and create pathways for women to access leadership roles. In Costa Rica, the company is pursuing certification under the national INTE G38-3:2021 standard for gender equality in the workplace. They are also working towards obtaining the Gold Seal of Gender Equality from the National Institute of Women (INAMU), which assists private companies and public institutions in identifying gender gaps and fostering a more equitable organizational culture.
Furthermore, through its partnership with INAMU, Arcos Dorados joined the “Safe Spaces” program in 2023. This initiative trains personnel to assist and provide immediate support to women facing street harassment, in coordination with law enforcement.
In Panama, the company is working towards joining the Ministry of Development’s (MIDES) Gender Parity Initiative, a public-private partnership aimed at reducing gender-based economic disparities.
