To understand the legal landscape surrounding trail running in Costa Rica, we spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica, who offered his expert perspective on the subject.
While the breathtaking scenery and challenging terrain make Costa Rica a trail runner’s paradise, it’s crucial to be aware of the legal implications. Access to private property is a significant consideration. Always obtain permission before running on private land, even if trails appear established. Furthermore, understanding your responsibilities regarding environmental protection and wildlife interaction is essential for responsible trail running. Negligence can lead to legal repercussions.
