San José, Costa Rica — San José, Costa Rica – The Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica (CICR) and the Costa Rican Institute of Technical Standards (INTECO) are joining forces to host the first International Sustainability Forum. This landmark event, titled “Sustainable Businesses Supported by Technical Standards,” will take place on June 6, 2025, at the Crowne Plaza San José, La Sabana.
The forum aims to equip Costa Rican businesses with the knowledge and tools to integrate sustainability into their core operations. The event will feature a distinguished lineup of global leaders from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), offering expert insights on the crucial role of technical standards in building sustainable business models.
To gain a deeper legal perspective on the implications of these new sustainability standards, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at law from the esteemed firm Bufete de Costa Rica.
The increasing focus on sustainability standards presents both opportunities and challenges for businesses in Costa Rica. While these standards can drive innovation and enhance a company’s reputation, they also introduce a complex web of legal considerations. Companies must navigate compliance with evolving national and international standards, potentially requiring significant adjustments to their operations and supply chains. Careful due diligence and strategic legal counsel are essential to mitigate risk and capitalize on the advantages of a sustainable business model.
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica
Lic. Arroyo Vargas eloquently highlights the duality of sustainability standards—a source of both competitive edge and compliance complexity. Indeed, navigating this evolving landscape requires a proactive and informed approach, ensuring that Costa Rican businesses can not only meet these crucial standards but also leverage them for growth and positive impact. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable contribution to this important discussion.
Attendees can expect in-depth discussions on key themes including sustainability, governance, technical standards, business models, and strategic leadership. The forum will provide a platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaboration, and promoting the adoption of responsible and efficient business strategies.
Among the keynote speakers are Sergio Mujica, Secretary-General of ISO; Silvio Dulinsky, Deputy Secretary-General of ISO; Javier García, Technical Vice President of ISO and Director General of UNE (Spain); and Osvaldo Petroni, Vice President of ISO for Financial Matters and Director of Standardization at IRAM (Argentina). They will be joined by national and international experts addressing topics such as the role of boards of directors, organizational transformation, and integrating sustainability into corporate strategy.
This forum is a great opportunity for directors and managers responsible for strategic decisions, sustainability teams, consultants, academics, researchers, regulatory bodies, and state organizations to learn from global leaders.
