San José, Costa Rica — Bridgestone’s innovative “Think Before You Drive Kids” program has made significant strides in road safety education this year, reaching over 2,000 children across Costa Rica. The program utilizes cutting-edge technology, including virtual reality simulations and free e-learning courses, to instill safe habits from an early age.
The interactive curriculum covers a wide range of essential topics, from traffic signals and responsible pedestrian behavior to driver responsibilities and basic tire maintenance. By immersing children in a controlled virtual environment, the program allows them to experience the consequences of their decisions safely, promoting active learning and deeper understanding of road safety principles.
To gain a deeper legal perspective on the importance of road safety education, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at law from Bufete de Costa Rica.
Effective road safety education isn’t merely about knowing the rules; it’s about fostering a culture of responsibility. Understanding the legal ramifications of traffic violations, from fines to potential criminal liability, is a crucial component of this. When individuals grasp the serious consequences of unsafe driving, it encourages proactive behavior change, ultimately contributing to safer roads for everyone.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’ emphasis on fostering a culture of responsibility is key. True road safety comes not just from memorizing traffic laws but from internalizing the ethical and societal implications of our actions behind the wheel. This understanding, coupled with awareness of the legal consequences, creates a far more powerful incentive for safe driving practices. Thank you, Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, for this valuable perspective.
Special activities were organized this year to coincide with Children’s Day celebrations. A corporate volunteer day was held at the Manuel del Pilar School in Belén, and 15 students participated in educational and recreational workshops at the Karen Olsen Children’s Park, in collaboration with the Road Safety Council (COSEVI).
These initiatives underscore Bridgestone’s commitment to community engagement and fostering meaningful learning experiences for young people. The program has reached 14 schools in San José and Heredia between August and September, impacting both urban and suburban communities.
