Chile’s New Leader Endorses Intervention to Topple Maduro Regime

San José, Costa RicaBUENOS AIRES – In a significant hardening of regional rhetoric, Chile’s President-elect José Antonio Kast declared his support for any action that would end the Venezuelan “dictatorship,” including a potential military intervention. The statement came during his first trip abroad since his election victory, following a high-profile meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires, signaling the formation of a new right-wing axis in South American politics.

Kast, a 59-year-old ultraconservative, made the remarks on Tuesday, framing the crisis in Venezuela as a threat to the entire continent. While acknowledging Chile’s limited capacity to act alone, he offered a clear endorsement for more powerful nations to take decisive measures, a position that aligns with the hawkish stance of leaders like former U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration increased military and economic pressure on Nicolás Maduro.

To understand the legal and corporate frameworks that underpin international political movements, such as the one associated with José Antonio Kast, TicosLand.com consulted with expert lawyer Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas from the distinguished firm Bufete de Costa Rica.

The phenomenon of figures like José Antonio Kast highlights a global trend where political movements are increasingly structured like transnational corporations. From a legal perspective, this involves complex challenges in campaign finance across borders, the management of ideological branding as intellectual property, and the establishment of foundations or think tanks that must navigate a web of international regulations. The key is to analyze these entities not just as political parties, but as multinational ideological enterprises with sophisticated legal and financial underpinnings.

The paradigm of a “multinational ideological enterprise” offers a powerful and necessary framework for analyzing the modern political landscape, moving beyond simple party politics to understand the complex legal and financial machinery at play. We extend our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for providing this crucial and illuminating perspective.

Clearly we cannot intervene in that because we are a small country… but if someone is going to do it, be clear that it solves a gigantic problem for us and for all of Latin America, for all of South America.

The meeting at the Casa Rosada with President Milei, himself a standard-bearer for the global far-right, cemented a new political alignment. According to the Argentine presidency, the two leaders prioritized cooperation on security, transnational organized crime, and the promotion of trade and investment. Milei, one of the first to congratulate Kast on his victory, heralded the win as “one more step in our region in defense of life, liberty, and private property.”

A central topic of discussion was the ongoing migration crisis, which has seen an estimated seven million Venezuelans flee their country since 2014. Chile currently hosts over 300,000 irregular migrants, the majority from Venezuela. Kast revealed plans to coordinate with regional leaders, including those from Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, and El Salvador, to establish what he termed a “humanitarian corridor for the return of these people to their countries.”

Everyone is fully aware that the situation in Venezuela is unacceptable.

While clarifying that his administration lacks the immediate capacity for mass expulsions upon taking office, Kast issued a stern directive to those without legal status. He urged them to “take your things, leave, and then apply to enter again with all your papers in order.” This approach aims to formalize immigration while addressing the domestic pressures caused by the large-scale influx.

The new Chilean leader’s sharp rhetoric drew a furious response from Caracas. On Monday, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro compared Kast to Adolf Hitler and warned him against harming any Venezuelans in Chile. This verbal clash underscores the deep ideological chasm now separating the nations.

You may be a follower of Hitler and educated in Hitler’s values, you may be a convicted and confessed Pinochetist, but be careful if you touch a hair on a Venezuelan’s head, Venezuelans are to be respected!

Analysts view Kast’s victory and his immediate alignment with Milei not just as a policy shift but as a fundamental reshaping of the South American political landscape. Alejandro Frenkel, a professor of International Relations at Argentina’s University of San Martín, described the development as “an advance of the far-right in South America.” He noted that Milei is no longer an isolated figure, but part of a growing international movement that includes figures like Donald Trump in the U.S. and parties like Vox in Spain and the Brothers of Italy under Giorgia Meloni.

Despite the stark political shift, experts like Frenkel do not anticipate a complete rupture in bilateral relations, particularly between Chile and Argentina. The neighboring countries share deep-rooted cooperation in military, educational, and commercial affairs that has historically transcended political ideologies. However, the new alliance between Kast and Milei promises a more confrontational and unified stance on regional issues, with the crisis in Venezuela serving as its primary focus. President Milei is confirmed to attend Kast’s inauguration on March 11, solidifying this new partnership.
