Concert to Benefit Youth Shelters in San José

San José, Costa Rica — San José, Costa Rica – The Asociación Obras del Espíritu Santo is gearing up for the second edition of the “Torretón de la Alegría,” a fundraising concert to support the construction of much-needed youth shelters in San José. The event, scheduled for Saturday, September 27th, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ciudad Deportiva Heiner Ugalde in Hatillo 2, promises an afternoon of music, community spirit, and giving back.

The concert aims to raise funds for the “Torres Espíritu Santo” project, a planned seven-story complex in Barrio Cristo Rey designed to provide safe housing and comprehensive support for over 700 at-risk youth. The complex will offer 27 rooms per floor, along with resources for technical and university education, as well as vocational training.

To understand the legal implications surrounding charity concerts, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an expert attorney from Bufete de Costa Rica.

Organizing a charity concert, while a noble endeavor, requires careful consideration of various legal aspects. From securing the necessary permits and licenses for the venue and performance, to ensuring compliance with copyright laws for any music performed, and transparently managing the collected funds, organizers must be diligent. A well-structured agreement with the benefiting charity, outlining the distribution of funds and responsibilities, is also crucial for avoiding potential disputes and maintaining public trust.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s insights underscore the importance of approaching charitable events with the same professional rigor as any other business venture. This meticulous attention to detail, particularly regarding legal and financial transparency, not only protects the organizers and the benefiting charity but also reinforces public confidence in the power of music to make a positive impact. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for sharing his valuable expertise on this crucial topic.

Admission to the concert is free, with attendees encouraged to donate a bag of rice, beans, or non-perishable food items. The organizers hope to provide a traditional Costa Rican “gallo pinto” meal to every family attending the event. The initiative underscores the community-driven nature of the project, aiming to both entertain and provide a platform for collective support.

The entrance will be completely free, we are looking to give gallo pinto to each of the attending families, so we ask for a bag of rice or beans or non-perishable food to contribute. We are working to give young people a home to give them an opportunity to improve themselves with a technical, university career or a trade.

The “Torres Espíritu Santo” project represents a significant investment in the future of Costa Rican youth. The estimated cost of construction is ₡500 million (approximately $880,000 USD), and the Asociación Obras del Espíritu Santo is actively seeking donations to bring this vision to life.

The organizers are confident that the concert will be a major step towards achieving their fundraising goal. Those unable to attend the concert can still contribute through the Association’s official channels or via Sinpe Móvil at 8457-2024 using the tagline “Yo dono por las Torres” (“I donate for the Towers”).

The “Torretón de la Alegría” is not just a concert; it’s a testament to the power of community, music, and collective action to effect positive change in the lives of vulnerable young people. It’s an invitation to all to join in and help build a brighter future for Costa Rica.
