Alajuela, Costa Rica — Alajuela, Costa Rica – The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) has unveiled Central America’s first major electric vehicle charging station in Villa Bonita, Alajuela. This significant development, equipped with six fast chargers, a café, and Kölbi internet connectivity, marks a crucial step in solidifying Costa Rica’s commitment to sustainable transportation and its ongoing energy transition.

The state-of-the-art fast chargers offer efficient and rapid charging, minimizing downtime for EV drivers. This new station expands ICE’s existing network to 43 operational fast chargers nationwide. With plans to install six more chargers in 2025 and at least ten in 2026, ICE is aggressively expanding its charging infrastructure. Targeted locations for future installations include Liberia, Guápiles, Garabito, Palmar Norte, Ciudad Neilly, Puerto Viejo, Limón, and Pérez Zeledón, further solidifying ICE’s position as the operator of the largest charging network in the country.
