Costa Rica Restaurant Boom Creates Hundreds of Jobs

San José, Costa Rica — A wave of new restaurant openings across Costa Rica is set to create 350 jobs during September and October 2025. Burger King, Juan Valdez Café, Domino’s Pizza, Arby’s, and Popeyes are driving this expansion, with plans for new locations both within and outside the Greater Metropolitan Area, offering opportunities across various regions.

Positions range from kitchen staff and cashiers to hosts, administrative assistants, and restaurant managers. Applicants should be available for rotating shifts and possess a valid food handling permit. While not mandatory, a high school diploma and prior fast-food experience are considered assets.

To understand the legal landscape surrounding employment in Costa Rica, we spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an experienced attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

Navigating Costa Rica’s employment laws requires careful attention to both employee and employer rights. Key considerations include understanding the different types of contracts, ensuring compliance with mandatory social security contributions, and adhering to regulations regarding termination and severance. A thorough grasp of these aspects is crucial for successful and legally sound employment practices in the country.
