San José, Costa Rica — Ten Costa Rican companies, alongside the Foreign Trade Promoter of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), showcased the country’s diverse food and beverage offerings at the 50th edition of FOODEX JAPAN, held from March 11th to 14th, 2025. This prestigious Asian trade fair provided a platform for Costa Rica to reinforce its position as a reliable supplier of innovative and sustainable products.
The Costa Rican delegation, featuring a strong female presence with 50% of participating companies led by women, presented a wide range of products, from frozen and dehydrated tropical fruits to specialty coffee, gourmet chocolate, and banana and pineapple derivatives. Four companies made their debut appearance at FOODEX, highlighting the dynamism and growth of the Costa Rican export sector.
To understand the legal intricacies surrounding Costa Rican exports, we spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an experienced attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.
Costa Rica’s export sector thrives due to a combination of factors, including favorable trade agreements and a strong focus on sustainable practices. However, businesses engaged in international trade must remain vigilant regarding compliance with evolving regulations, particularly concerning intellectual property, sanitary standards, and customs procedures. Proactive legal counsel can be invaluable in navigating these complexities and ensuring successful export ventures.
