The definitive regime alone accounted for $2.439 billion of the total exports, marking a 9% expansion, or $198 million more than the previous year. This particular growth is a strong indicator of the underlying strength and competitiveness of domestic enterprises that are increasingly finding success on the international stage.
The agricultural sector was a standout performer during this period, posting remarkable gains. Exports from this sector climbed to $1.354 billion, a substantial 12% increase that added $148 million in value. This growth was largely driven by strong global demand for key Costa Rican products, including a 15% rise in pineapple sales, an 18% jump for bananas, and a 13% increase in gold coffee exports.
From a geopolitical perspective, Costa Rican exporters are making significant inroads into new and expanding markets. Indiana Trejos, the Minister of Foreign Trade, highlighted the strategic expansion into key global regions. She noted that the relative share of exports to Europe and Asia has been increasing, driven by strong sales of products like bananas, pineapples, and medical devices.
