Consumers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will also see some relief, as the price of a 25-pound cylinder will decrease by ₡170, bringing the new price to ₡7,114.

The price updates were made based on Recope’s acquisition costs.
ARESEP, Press Release

These price fluctuations are attributed to shifts in the international fuel market, a dynamic that continues to impact fuel costs globally. The recent adjustments highlight the interconnectedness of the Costa Rican fuel market with global trends.

ARESEP plays a crucial role in regulating fuel prices in Costa Rica, with a mandate to ensure fair and transparent pricing for consumers. The agency analyzes various factors, including international market prices and Recope’s operational costs, when determining fuel price adjustments. These periodic reviews aim to reflect the current market conditions while protecting consumer interests.

For motorists, the price changes represent a continuing challenge in managing transportation costs. While the slight decrease in Super gasoline offers a small reprieve, the increases in regular gasoline and diesel prices will likely impact the majority of drivers. The reduced cost of LPG cylinders provides some welcome news for households relying on this fuel source for cooking and other needs.

The fluctuating fuel prices underscore the importance of efficient fuel consumption and exploring alternative transportation options. As global market conditions continue to evolve, consumers can expect further adjustments to fuel prices in the future.
