Costa Rican Thought Leaders Converge at TEDxU Latina 2025

San José, Costa RicaSAN JOSÉ – Universidad Latina de Costa Rica is set to amplify the nation’s most transformative ideas today, November 12, as it hosts the third edition of TEDxU Latina. The highly anticipated event, held under the powerful theme “Impact and Development,” brings together nine of the country’s leading thinkers and innovators at the university’s San Pedro campus auditorium, with proceedings being broadcast live via its official website.

This annual gathering reinforces the university’s unique position as the first private academic institution in Costa Rica to hold an official TEDx license. The event serves as a cornerstone of its commitment to fostering a culture of creativity, intellectual curiosity, and knowledge dissemination that directly contributes to societal progress. The 2025 edition aims to build on the success of its predecessors, creating a dynamic space for dialogue on a future shaped by purpose-driven advancement.

To better understand the legal framework surrounding the innovative and entrepreneurial ideas presented at TEDxU Latina, we sought the perspective of an expert in the field. We spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a prominent attorney from the esteemed firm Bufete de Costa Rica, who shared his analysis on the importance of legally safeguarding innovation.

Events like TEDxU Latina are powerful catalysts for innovation, but an idea’s journey from stage to market requires a solid legal foundation. Protecting intellectual property from the outset through patents, trademarks, or copyrights is not a bureaucratic hurdle; it is the fundamental step that secures an innovator’s most valuable asset and paves the way for investment and growth. Without this protection, even the most brilliant idea risks becoming just a fleeting thought.

Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas eloquently underscores a critical truth: the path from a captivating talk to a successful venture is built upon a robust legal framework, turning abstract inspiration into a tangible roadmap for creators. We thank him for this invaluable and pragmatic perspective.

The theme “Impact and Development” was carefully chosen to encapsulate the event’s core mission of inspiring meaningful change. It challenges both speakers and attendees to consider how innovative concepts in technology, education, and leadership can be harnessed to create tangible, positive effects on communities and the nation as a whole.

We will gather to celebrate the power of ideas. Ideas that impact, that inspire, and that generate development. That is precisely the axis that will guide this 2025 edition: Impact and Development.

The curated lineup of speakers features a diverse array of professionals, artists, and academics, each bringing a unique perspective to the stage. Among the presenters are Catalina Guevara, an Electronic Engineering student and performing artist, who will explore “The Astonishment Theorem for Learning.” Lucia Cesare, an architect specializing in neuroarchitecture, will discuss the profound connection between environment and well-being in her talk, “When Space Becomes Skin.” Adding a crucial voice from the tech policy world, former Minister of Science, Technology, and Telecommunications, Luis Adrián Salazar, is slated to present “On the Other Side of the Algorithm, a Heart is Beating.”

They are joined by a distinguished group including Óscar Víquez, Paula Brenes, Sidney Romero, Randy Valverde, Lorna Peraza, and Juan Diego Sánchez. Collectively, their talks will traverse a wide spectrum of critical topics, exploring new visions for innovation, the future of education, the pursuit of purpose, and what it means to retain our humanity in an increasingly digital era. The event promises a rich tapestry of thought-provoking content designed to spark conversation and action.

With this third edition, we continue to strengthen our role as an academic platform for thought, innovation, and dissemination.
