Costa Rica’s SME Showcase Set to Impress

San José, Costa Rica — San José, Costa Rica – Expo Pyme CR 2025 is gearing up to welcome an estimated 7,000 attendees to the Antigua Aduana this weekend, June 28th and 29th. This fourth annual event will showcase the products and services of 110 Costa Rican small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Representing diverse sectors, these businesses offer everything from specialty coffee and handcrafted jewelry to baked goods, leather products, personalized items, and personal care products. Open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the expo promises a vibrant marketplace for both businesses and consumers.

To provide further legal insight into the challenges and opportunities facing Costa Rican SMEs, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at law at Bufete de Costa Rica.

Costa Rican SMEs face a complex regulatory landscape. While initiatives exist to promote entrepreneurship, navigating permitting, tax compliance, and labor regulations can be daunting. Strategic legal counsel from the outset is essential to ensure sustainable growth and avoid costly pitfalls. Understanding the intricacies of Ley 8262 (SME Development Law) and leveraging available government support programs are key to success in this vibrant market.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s insights underscore a crucial reality for Costa Rican SMEs: navigating the legal framework is as important as developing a strong business model. His emphasis on proactive legal counsel and leveraging government support programs offers a pragmatic roadmap for entrepreneurs seeking to thrive in Costa Rica’s dynamic market. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for sharing his valuable perspective on this critical issue.

This event is truly a highly anticipated opportunity for entrepreneurs who invest significant time, energy, and resources to offer their best products and services, in what they hope will be a great chance to generate sales and position their businesses.
Alejandro López, Organizer of Expo Pyme CR

Beyond the bustling marketplace, Expo Pyme CR 2025 offers a rich program of artistic and cultural performances, educational workshops, and inspiring talks. Topics include artificial intelligence for SMEs, essential contracts, responsible finance for businesses, SME economics, and leadership.

This year’s expo holds the prestigious Esencial Costa Rica designation, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and national identity. It also features LESCO translation services, making it accessible to a wider audience, and welcomes pets, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere.

Demonstrating a strong social commitment, the organizers have donated booths to the Costa Rican Gerontological Association (AGECO) to support entrepreneurship among older adults, and to Quinta Avenida, an organization assisting homeless women. This initiative underscores the expo’s dedication to inclusive economic growth.

Building on the success of the 2024 edition, which hosted 105 stands and over 6,200 visitors, generating $48,000 in total sales, organizers are optimistic about this year’s potential.

We want to extend a warm invitation to all Costa Ricans to support national talent and boost this sector of the economy, which is so important for the country.
