Ericsson Partners with INA to Advance STEAM Education and Boost Digital Skills in Costa Rica’s Workforce

San José, Costa Rica – Ericsson and the National Learning Institute (INA) of Costa Rica have joined forces to enhance digital skills across the country through a new General Collaboration Agreement.

This initiative aims to foster collaboration among experts, educators, students, and industry professionals to leverage 5G technology, develop digital competencies, and support the digital transformation of Costa Rica.

Central to this partnership is the implementation of Ericsson’s Connect to Learn program, which seeks to bridge the digital divide and provide quality educational content and connectivity.

One notable aspect of this initiative is the Ericsson 5G University, designed to equip educators with in-depth knowledge of 5G technology. By integrating these concepts into their curricula, educators can better prepare students for careers in telecommunications and IT sectors.

Furthermore, the 21st Century Technologies program will offer online self-learning materials and training in key technologies such as AI, automation, IoT, and 5G. Complementary to this, Ericsson experts will conduct a series of conferences and masterclasses in collaboration with academic institutions, focusing on the practical applications of new technologies to address local challenges and opportunities.

The INA is an institution that must adapt its training at the pace of global advancements. This agreement allows us to remain at the forefront, even leading the region in educational technology

Juan Alfaro López, Executive President of INA

The partnership addresses a critical need in Costa Rica’s labor market.

According to a 2021 survey, 78% of organizations reported difficulties filling vacancies for ICT roles due to a lack of digital skills among applicants.

We are proud to support the development of necessary skills for current and future talent. The INA is an excellent partner in accelerating 5G adoption and maximizing connectivity benefits for communities, industries, and the country

Fabian Monge, Acting President of Ericsson for LATAM North and the Caribbean

This collaboration is set to enhance Costa Rica’s digital ecosystem, positioning the country as a central innovation hub in Central America.

With a growing emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, Costa Rica is poised to meet the demands of the modern labor market and drive regional technological advancements.
