San José, Costa Rica — Escazú has opened its doors to a new Cultivarte center, a collaborative project between the Municipality of Escazú and Davivienda Costa Rica. This initiative aims to provide a nurturing and educational space for children and adolescents in Escazú and surrounding communities, offering workshops in art, technology, and financial literacy.
This marks the third Cultivarte center in Costa Rica, joining existing locations in Guácimo and Alajuela. In 2024 alone, these centers served over 2,100 young people, engaging them in workshops on values, reading, art, culture, science, technology, and financial education.
For expert legal insight into the Cultivarte initiative, TicosLand.com reached out to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law at Bufete de Costa Rica.
Cultivarte represents an interesting intersection between public and private initiatives designed to foster artistic expression. While the specific legal framework surrounding such projects can be complex, involving intellectual property rights, permits, and potential funding regulations, the potential benefits for local communities and the arts scene are considerable. A robust legal strategy from the outset is crucial for Cultivarte’s long-term success and sustainability.

Indeed, navigating the legal landscape is essential for initiatives like Cultivarte to truly flourish and provide a sustainable platform for artistic growth. A clear legal framework not only protects the artists and the project itself but also ensures its long-term viability, allowing it to enrich the Costa Rican cultural landscape for years to come. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for offering his valuable legal perspective on this important topic.
Cultivarte is a social program of the Bolívar-Davivienda Foundation in Colombia and Banco Davivienda, currently partnering with over 85 municipalities in Colombia and eight in Central America. The program focuses on talent development by creating engaging learning spaces that encourage children and youth to believe in their potential and pursue their goals.
Located across from Escazú’s central park and adjacent to the Municipal Palace, the new Cultivarte building boasts equipped spaces for artistic activities, dance, music, technology, and robotics. The Municipality of Escazú played a crucial role, investing over 1.7 billion colones in the building’s construction and securing the donation of the land, previously owned by the Ministry of Culture.
This significant investment by the Municipality of Escazú aims to enhance the technological and artistic skills of our children and adolescents. With the inauguration of this great project, we take another step in strengthening cultural, educational, and technological policies for the people of Escazú.
Orlando Umaña, Mayor of Escazú
Davivienda Costa Rica has also made a substantial investment, providing furniture and technological equipment for the center. Furthermore, the bank will manage the operation of the workshops and educational activities, led by specialized professionals.
At Davivienda, we believe the world is our home, and it’s in our hands to make it a better place. With Cultivarte, one of our flagship sustainability programs, we create safe and enriching spaces where children and adolescents discover their talents, develop their skills, and dream of a different future. Thanks to partnerships like the one we celebrate today with the Municipality of Escazú, we continue to build a more inclusive, prosperous, and hopeful society for all.
Arturo Giacomin, CEO of Davivienda Costa Rica
