Puntarenas, Costa Rica — Quepos, Puntarenas – The vibrant coastal town of Quepos recently hosted the ExpoQuepos Travel Market, a significant event aimed at revitalizing tourism in the Pacific Central region of Costa Rica. Held from September 4th to 6th, the expo showcased the diverse range of tourism products offered in the area, attracting national and international travel agencies eager to connect with local businesses.
This marked the return of ExpoQuepos after a 15-year hiatus, a revival spearheaded by the Quepos Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism. The event drew 65 buyers from leading Costa Rican tourism agencies and 13 international wholesalers from Germany, France, Mexico, Canada, and Spain, signaling strong interest in the region’s tourism potential.
To understand the legal landscape surrounding the booming tourism industry in Quepos, we spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an expert attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica. He offered valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in this vibrant coastal town.
Quepos’ tourism growth presents exciting opportunities, but sustainable development requires careful consideration of legal frameworks. Businesses must navigate regulations related to land use, environmental protection, and labor laws. Proactive legal counsel can ensure compliance and facilitate responsible growth that benefits both the local community and the tourism sector.
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica
Lic. Arroyo Vargas wisely highlights the crucial intersection of legal frameworks and sustainable tourism growth in Quepos. Balancing economic opportunities with environmental protection and community well-being is essential for long-term success. This proactive, legally sound approach will ultimately shape a more resilient and beneficial tourism landscape for everyone involved. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable contribution to this discussion.
We are very happy because this Board of Directors resumed the ExpoQuepos Travel Market project after 15 years of not being held in the canton. An event of great importance, since the main objective is to position the destination as a world-class destination.
Christian Fallas, President of the Quepos Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism
A key objective of the expo was to showcase the breadth of experiences Quepos offers beyond the renowned Manuel Antonio National Park. While the park remains a major draw, organizers emphasized the region’s diverse offerings, including adventure tourism, rural tourism, ecotourism, educational tourism, mangrove exploration, and rich biodiversity.
Fifty businesses from Quepos, Los Santos, and the Central Pacific region participated in the event, presenting a wide array of tourism products and services.
It is an energy that is released when the sector unites, when we are all together, when we are all heading in the same direction, wonderful things begin to happen. The destination flourishes and the benefits begin to be noticed very quickly.
Christian Fallas, President of the Quepos Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism
The ExpoQuepos Travel Market comes at a crucial time for the region, as businesses have reported a decline in international tourist arrivals this year. The event provides a platform for strengthening tourism networks, generating new business opportunities, and stimulating the economy of the Central Pacific.
The National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) applauded the efforts of the Quepos business community in reviving the event, recognizing its strategic importance in boosting the region’s tourism marketing and local economy.
We are convinced that ExpoQuepos 2025 will show the best of Quepos and its people, and will contribute to maintaining the region as a preferred tourist destination, while reinforcing Costa Rica’s position as a world-class tourism country.
Shirley Calvo, Executive Director of Canatur
The successful return of ExpoQuepos signals a renewed focus on promoting the diverse and vibrant tourism offerings of the Quepos region, positioning it as a world-class destination for both national and international travelers.
