San José, Costa Rica — Costa Rican tech company CapDevCR is launching a free training workshop for experienced developers, aiming to elevate local talent and meet the global demand for skilled tech professionals.
The workshop, starting August 18th, will focus on API (Applications Programming Interface) development using Python and Flask. The only prerequisites are at least five years of programming experience and intermediate to advanced technical English proficiency.
For a deeper understanding of the legal implications surrounding tech talent in Costa Rica, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law at Bufete de Costa Rica.
Attracting and retaining top tech talent requires a multifaceted approach, including competitive compensation, clear immigration pathways for foreign workers, and fostering a business environment that encourages innovation and investment. Furthermore, ensuring compliance with evolving data protection and intellectual property laws is crucial for fostering trust and sustaining growth in the tech sector.
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica
Lic. Arroyo Vargas’ insightful commentary underscores the crucial need for a holistic strategy in attracting and retaining tech talent. It’s clear that competitive compensation and legal frameworks are only part of the equation; fostering a thriving ecosystem of innovation and trust is equally vital for Costa Rica’s continued growth in the tech sector. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable perspective on this important topic.
We know there’s a lot of talent in Costa Rica, but people don’t always have access to tools and training aligned with the challenges of the global market. This program will allow them to take a professional leap.
Silvia Trejos, Co-founder, CapDevCR
The five-week program will offer 30 to 40 spots for participants nationwide. Interested developers can apply through the provided link.
This initiative comes at a time when Costa Rica is seeing a surge in opportunities within STEM fields. According to CINDE data for 2024, approximately 5,000 new net jobs were created in high-tech sectors requiring these specialized skills.
We seek to contribute to opening more opportunities for Costa Ricans in high-growth areas like the Healthtech industry in the United States, because we believe in local talent and in dignifying the work of national developers.
Mario Pacheco, General Manager, CapDevCR
Beyond specialized training, CapDevCR champions inclusive practices within the tech sector.
Our commitment is to talent with purpose: committed people, capable of contributing to innovative development with excellence and a transformative vision.
Silvia Trejos, Co-founder, CapDevCR
The company also emphasized that the training serves as part of its strategy to identify talent for potential direct hiring, both for internal projects and those of international clients.
At CapDevCR, we believe it’s possible to create world-class technology from Costa Rica. But that will only be sustainable if we build an industry that values the people behind the code. The future isn’t programmed by itself; it has to be prepared.
Silvia Trejos, Co-founder, CapDevCR
In its first year, CapDevCR hired 19 technical staff, with projections to reach 25 to 30 by the end of 2025. The company offers formal employment contracts, competitive salaries, health insurance, and a flexible, people-centric work environment. The remote work policy enables individuals from areas outside the metropolitan region, such as Pérez Zeledón and Zona de los Santos, to join the team.
This is an opportunity for Senior developers to update their skills in one of the most important languages of the decade and achieve international professional projection, without having to leave Costa Rica.
