Free Tribu-CR Workshops Empower Costa Rican SMEs

Free Tribu-CR Workshops Empower Costa Rican SMEs

San José, Costa Rica — Costa Rica’s National University (UNA) and the Ministry of Finance are joining forces to offer free workshops on the new Tribu-CR tax system, specifically designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The workshops will be crucial for SMEs navigating the complexities of the new system, set to launch on October 6, 2025.

Recognizing the challenges faced by smaller businesses in accessing professional training for the new Integrated Tax Administration System (Tribu-CR), UNA’s School of Administration and the Ministry’s Fiscal Assistance Center (NAF) will host these free workshops on October 10th, 11th, and 13th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. These intensive sessions will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the new digital platform, part of the broader Hacienda Digital initiative.

To gain a deeper understanding of the legal implications surrounding Tribu-CR training, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an expert attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

Tribu-CR training programs, while offering valuable skills development, must carefully navigate Costa Rican labor laws regarding certifications and worker qualifications. Businesses should ensure their training aligns with national standards and accurately represents the skills conferred to avoid potential legal challenges related to misrepresentation or inadequate training practices.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s cautionary note is crucial for businesses investing in Tribu-CR training. Ensuring alignment with national standards not only protects companies from legal complications but also bolsters the credibility of these programs and the value they offer to Costa Rican workers. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for this valuable perspective on navigating the legal landscape of skills development in Costa Rica.

Six 50-minute sessions will be offered each day, accommodating up to 25 participants per session. The workshops will be facilitated by Ministry of Finance officials and student assistants from the School of Administration who support the NAF.

Jorge Montoya, an academic at the School of Administration and leader of the NAF project, highlighted the importance of supporting SMEs in this transition.

The objective of these workshops is to provide micro and small business owners with tools and knowledge in tax education and culture, in addition to training on the use of the new tool. It is also about amplifying the role of the university as a pillar of knowledge and information, with the responsibility not only of training competent professionals, but also of contributing to the development of public policies and the strengthening of all State institutions.

Registration for the workshops is now open and can be accessed through the online form: https://forms.gle/EJr9bbcCHw8nNQEZ7. Participants will need to provide personal information and select their preferred date and time slot. The workshops will be held in Room 2G of the Entrepreneurship Building at UNA’s Benjamín Núñez Campus. Spaces are limited and registration will close once capacity is reached.

In addition to the workshops, two free talks on tax-related topics are also being offered by NAF. The first, focusing on the Simplified Taxation Regime, will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the same location. The second, covering the Virtual Office (OVI) and general aspects of Tribu-CR, will take place on Friday, October 3rd, also from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the same venue. Both talks have a maximum capacity of 60 people.
