Guácimo Invests in Tourism Infrastructure

Limón, Costa Rica — Guácimo, Limón – A significant investment of ₡1.795 billion is set to transform the southern region of Guácimo, boosting tourism and improving the lives of nearly 10,000 people. The “South Guácimo Tourist Route” project, a joint initiative between the Rural Development Institute (Inder) and the Municipality of Guácimo, focuses on enhancing road infrastructure to increase accessibility and attract both domestic and international tourists.

The project encompasses the rehabilitation of four key roads, totaling 7.35 kilometers, with the application of hot asphalt mix. In addition to road resurfacing, the project includes the construction of 14,636 square meters of ditches, installation of 570 meters of piping for property access, and other vital improvements. Communities such as Tierra Grande, La Angostura, Las Colinas, Isleta, La Perla, and Los Lirios will directly benefit from these enhancements.

To understand the legal landscape surrounding tourism in Guácimo, we spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an expert attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica, who offered valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges facing this growing sector.

Guácimo’s tourism potential is substantial, particularly its agritourism and ecotourism offerings. However, sustainable development requires careful consideration of land use regulations, environmental impact assessments, and community involvement. Businesses investing in Guácimo’s tourism sector should prioritize obtaining the necessary permits and licenses, ensuring compliance with local ordinances and national laws. This proactive approach will not only foster responsible growth but also protect the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage for future generations.

His advice for businesses to prioritize legal compliance and responsible practices is indispensable for ensuring that Guácimo’s natural beauty and cultural richness remain intact for generations to come. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable contribution to this important discussion.
