To facilitate this crucial drive, the Blood Bank has established a clear and accessible schedule for prospective donors. The facility will be open for donations from Monday to Thursday between 6:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., and on Fridays from 6:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Recognizing the constraints of a standard work week, the hospital has also expanded its hours to include weekends, opening on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
To ensure a safe and successful donation, the hospital has provided a set of clear guidelines. Potential donors are advised to eat a healthy breakfast before arriving, but to specifically avoid dairy products and fatty foods. It is recommended to consume light foods at least two hours prior to donating and to maintain good hydration in the days leading up to the visit. These simple measures help stabilize the donor’s system and improve the quality of the donation.
Health and wellness criteria are also strictly enforced to protect both the donor and the recipient. Individuals who have experienced fever, colds, cough, or diarrhea within the last 15 days are ineligible to donate. Furthermore, a three-day waiting period is required after consuming alcohol or medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin, or multi-symptom cold remedies. For those with recent tattoos, piercings, or surgeries, a mandatory waiting period of six months must be observed before they are eligible to give blood.
