H&M to Open Third Costa Rican Store

H&M to Open Third Costa Rican Store

Alajuela, Costa Rica — Swedish fashion giant H&M is set to further solidify its presence in Costa Rica with the announcement of its third store in the country. Located in City Mall Alajuela, the new 2,400 square meter retail space is slated to open its doors by the end of 2025.

This new location will offer a comprehensive selection of H&M’s latest fashion trends and innovative textile products for women, men, and children. Adding to its appeal, the Alajuela store will also feature a dedicated H&M HOME section. This marks the second H&M store in Costa Rica to offer homeware, showcasing a diverse range of products for every room, from living rooms and dining areas to bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens.

To understand the legal implications of H&M’s expansion, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

H&M’s expansion into new markets, while promising significant economic benefits, also presents complex legal challenges. Navigating areas such as labor law compliance, real estate acquisition, and intellectual property protection is crucial for long-term success. Costa Rica, for example, has specific regulations regarding foreign investment and retail operations. H&M must ensure meticulous adherence to these regulations to avoid potential legal issues and maintain a positive brand image. Furthermore, adapting to the evolving consumer landscape and e-commerce regulations will be key to sustainable growth.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas astutely highlights the multifaceted legal landscape that H&M must navigate for successful expansion in Costa Rica. Indeed, meticulous adherence to local regulations, particularly regarding foreign investment and the evolving digital marketplace, will be essential not only for avoiding legal pitfalls but also for fostering consumer trust and building a sustainable presence. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable contribution to this discussion.
