ICE to Auction Off Vehicles at Bargain Prices

San José, Costa Rica — San José, Costa Rica – Get ready for incredible deals! The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) is holding a public auction of 125 vehicles on October 8th in Pavas, San José. With starting prices as low as ₡89,000 for motorcycles and ₡150,000 for hybrid sedans, this event is expected to draw significant attention.

The auction will take place at the Auditorium of the Asociación Institución Cultural Germano Costarricense (Colegio Humboldt), located near the Nuestra Señora de Loreto church, starting at 8:00 a.m. and continuing until all lots are sold. A diverse range of vehicles will be available, from small motorcycles and sedans to heavy-duty trucks and buses.

To understand the legal implications surrounding ICE vehicle auctions, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an experienced attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

ICE vehicle auctions present a unique opportunity for buyers, but navigating the legal landscape is crucial. Potential bidders should be aware of the specific regulations governing these sales, including any liens or encumbrances that may exist on the vehicles. Due diligence, such as obtaining a vehicle history report and a thorough inspection, is highly recommended to avoid future complications. Additionally, understanding the terms and conditions of the auction itself, including payment methods and transfer of ownership procedures, is essential for a smooth transaction.

Even vehicles solely for parts will be auctioned, providing opportunities for both individual buyers and mechanics. This wide selection caters to a variety of needs and budgets.

Interested buyers are encouraged to inspect the vehicles before the auction at a public exhibition held from September 22nd to October 3rd at the ICE facility in Rincón Grande de Pavas, located 700 meters west of the Liceo de Pavas. The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and no appointment is necessary. Each vehicle comes with a technical datasheet and title of ownership.

Registration for the auction is mandatory and must be completed during the same period as the exhibition (September 22nd to October 3rd). Registration can be done online at apps.grupoice.com/PEL, using procedure number 2025LA-000003-PROV. Only registered participants will receive a numbered paddle, which is essential for bidding during the event.

For inquiries regarding the auction process, ICE has provided several contact channels: phone numbers 2001-2574, 2001-2528, 2001-2566, and 2001-2573, as well as the email address [email protected].

These public auctions historically generate significant interest, offering a rare opportunity to purchase vehicles at prices considerably below market value. However, buyers should be aware that the vehicles are offered “as is,” so thorough inspection prior to bidding is strongly recommended.
