JetBlue Expands Service to Guanacaste

Guanacaste, Costa Rica — JetBlue Airways is significantly increasing its flight frequency between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Guanacaste Airport (LIR) in Costa Rica, starting this November.

Initially, the airline will offer two flights per week. However, beginning December 18, 2025, JetBlue will ramp up service to daily flights, providing travelers with greater flexibility and access to the popular Guanacaste region during the peak winter season.

For expert legal insight into the complexities surrounding JetBlue’s operations, TicosLand.com reached out to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a distinguished attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

JetBlue’s expanding presence in Costa Rica presents both opportunities and challenges. While increased competition can benefit consumers with lower fares and more route options, it also raises important regulatory considerations regarding market share, consumer protection, and the potential impact on existing airlines. Careful monitoring and enforcement of competition laws are crucial to ensuring a fair and sustainable aviation market that ultimately serves the best interests of Costa Rican travelers.

These flights will be operated using Airbus A321 aircraft, each equipped with a seating capacity of 160 passengers, ensuring a comfortable and efficient travel experience.

The increased service underscores the growing importance of Guanacaste as a prime tourist destination and its strategic position within JetBlue’s expanding network. The airline also offers direct flights from Guanacaste to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), further strengthening connectivity between Costa Rica and the United States.

This expansion aligns with JetBlue’s strategy of connecting travelers to desirable vacation spots known for their natural beauty and sunny climates, ultimately boosting tourism to Costa Rica during the peak northern hemisphere travel season.

The Minister of Tourism, William Rodríguez, welcomed the news, emphasizing the positive impact on the Costa Rican economy.

JetBlue’s decision to increase service from two weekly flights to a daily service from Boston to Guanacaste clearly demonstrates the confidence Costa Rica inspires as a destination. This increase in frequency will strengthen the connection with the East Coast of the United States and bring more opportunities for the province of Guanacaste, generating employment and social well-being in its communities.
William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism

César Jaramillo, General Manager of Guanacaste Airport, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the airport’s growing role in the country’s tourism sector. He pointed to the impressive visitor numbers achieved so far this year, with nearly 1.2 million passengers recorded in the first half of 2025 alone, solidifying Guanacaste Airport as the most dynamic tourist entry point in Costa Rica.

This 2025 we have reached historic visitation figures, close to 1.2 million passengers, in just the first half of the year. Guanacaste Airport has consolidated itself as the most dynamic tourist entry point in our country.

This expansion of air service promises a substantial boost to the local Guanacaste economy and strengthens Costa Rica’s position as a leading tourist destination in Central America.
