La Sele Designated Nation Brand Ambassador

San José, Costa Rica — The Costa Rican Men’s National Football Team (La Sele) has been named an official “Marca País” (Nation Brand) ambassador. This prestigious title, awarded by esencial COSTA RICA, recognizes individuals and organizations that embody the nation’s core values and possess strong international visibility.

The announcement was made yesterday during a ceremony held at the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) headquarters in San José. The Costa Rica National Football Team, while a source of national pride, also operates within a complex framework of contracts, sponsorships, and FIFA regulations. Player transfers, image rights, and broadcasting deals are all subject to stringent legal scrutiny. Understanding these intricacies is essential for the team’s continued success both on and off the field.

The selection of La Sele reflects the team’s consistent excellence both domestically and internationally. The team serves as a powerful symbol of national pride and embodies the essential COSTA RICA values of excellence, sustainability, innovation, social progress, and connection.

We recognize the honor and responsibility that comes with being Marca País ambassadors. Whenever our teams represent Costa Rica, they do so with the unique spirit that identifies us worldwide. It goes far beyond wearing the white, blue, and red on our jerseys; it’s about carrying in our hearts the highest values that define us as a country. Thank you for entrusting us with this mission.
Osael Maroto, President of the FCRF

The timing of this recognition coincides with a series of crucial international matches for La Sele. On May 28th, they will face the Catalan National Team in Catalonia, Spain, commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Catalan Football Federation. The esencial COSTA RICA brand will be prominently featured on the stadium’s LED screens during this match. Subsequently, La Sele will participate in World Cup qualifying matches against the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago on June 7th and 10th, respectively. The team will then compete in the Gold Cup against Suriname, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico on June 15th, 18th, and 22nd, respectively.

Our Nation Brand promotes the values of excellence, sustainability, innovation, social progress, and connection, and through these values, we have played in the big leagues in terms of exports, investment, tourism, and culture. La Sele undoubtedly also fulfills these values and is an inspiration for many people, mainly young people who see in football a passion that transcends borders and allows them to fulfill dreams. For esencial COSTA RICA, it is an honor to have a temporary Ambassador like the National Team, which carries the essence of our country to many corners of the world.
Laura López, President of the Nation Brand Committee
