Latin America Leads Global Gaming Explosion with Record Growth

San José, Costa Rica — The global gaming industry has transitioned from a niche hobby into a highly sophisticated, multi-billion-dollar economic engine. According to the latest Global Gaming Trends Report by NielsenIQ (NIQ), the global gaming economy reached a staggering valuation of $39.4 billion between July 2025 and June 2026. This impressive expansion is being driven primarily by the energetic performance of emerging markets, which are rapidly reshaping the global interactive entertainment landscape.

Among all regions, Latin America has emerged as the undisputed leader in global gaming growth. The region recorded a spectacular 25% increase during the analyzed period, establishing itself as the market with the highest potential for long-term development. In comparison, Eastern Europe posted a 17% growth rate, while Developed Asia and Emerging Asia both grew by 13%. Meanwhile, Western Europe grew by 8%, China by 4%, and the Middle East and Africa saw a modest 3% rise.

To better understand the legal implications and regulatory frameworks surrounding these recent developments, TicosLand.com consulted with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a leading legal expert from the prominent firm Bufete de Costa Rica, to provide professional clarity on the matter.

The structural evolution of the gaming ecosystem is increasingly digital, with online sales outperforming physical retail channels across hardware, accessories, and underlying infrastructure. This transition highlight the changing consumer habits that favor digital convenience over traditional physical storefronts.

The gaming ecosystem is undergoing a profound transformation where future growth will be won primarily online. Today, global sales in the online channel clearly outperform the physical channel in hardware, accessories, and infrastructure. With an 11% increase in online commerce compared to 5% in physical stores, brands and retailers must understand that the digital shopping experience is the true engine of this evolution.

To help brands navigate this complex landscape, the NielsenIQ study classifies the modern gaming audience into three distinctive profiles. The first is Performance Gamers, a highly specialized group where 72% meticulously evaluate technical specifications like graphic cards, RAM, and processors, while 32% conduct deep pre-purchase research. The second group is Console Gamers, characterized by high brand loyalty, with 57% remaining loyal to preferred brands and 38% relying on third-party recommendations. Lastly, Light Gamers represent a practical segment where 78% prioritize low prices and user-friendly devices.

The report also highlights a shifting paradigm in hardware consumption. Rather than replacing entire gaming rigs, players are choosing targeted upgrades, connected ecosystems, and artificial intelligence features. This trend represents a substantial opportunity for components manufacturers and accessory distributors to target individual component upgrades rather than complete system replacements.

The rise of simulation gaming has also sparked a dramatic sales surge for niche accessories. This includes specialized steering wheels and competitive pedals, alongside gaming-specific keyboards and headsets. These developments reflect a broader consumer shift toward immersive and highly communicative gaming experiences.

The way users interact with video games is going beyond traditional gaming. We are witnessing the rise of simulation, reflected in the 22% growth in the sale of steering wheels and an impressive 88% in pedals, as well as tools for communication and competitive play, such as specialized gaming keyboards (+16%) and gaming headsets (+10%). Likewise, artificial intelligence is redefining the experience through conversational non-playable characters, learning assistants, and dynamic worlds that respond in real time to the player. Companies that manage to integrate these technologies and develop connected ecosystems will capture the greatest value in the market.

Artificial intelligence is quickly taking center stage in the next generation of video games. AI technology is redefining player interactions through conversational non-playable characters (NPCs), adaptive learning assistants, and dynamic worlds that respond in real time. Companies that successfully integrate these technologies into connected ecosystems stand to capture the highest value in the current marketplace.

Consequently, technology brands and retail companies must realign their customer engagement strategies. Consumer purchase decisions are increasingly shaped by digital touchpoints, including search engines, online retail sites, social media channels, expert reviews, and AI-powered search engines. Providing strong information support throughout the consumer journey will be vital for maintaining a competitive edge in Latin America and beyond.
