Lexmark Unveils New Printers in Central America

San José, Costa Rica — Lexmark is strengthening its presence in the Central American market with the launch of its new Series 9 printers and multifunction printers (MFPs). The company recently showcased these new A3 color and monochrome devices in Costa Rica, expanding its existing A4 printer portfolio and offering businesses a powerful new range of printing solutions designed for the digital age. This launch reinforces Lexmark’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technology with a focus on sustainability and operational efficiency.

The distinction between A3 and A4 printers is crucial. While A4 printers handle standard letter-sized paper, A3 devices accommodate larger formats, ideal for projects requiring more space, such as blueprints, marketing materials, or medical images. The A3 models also typically offer greater capacity and speed, making them well-suited for demanding environments.

For expert legal insight into the implications surrounding Lexmark printers, we turned to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a distinguished attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

The legal landscape surrounding printer technology, specifically regarding Lexmark, often involves complex issues of intellectual property, patent law, and antitrust. Companies utilizing Lexmark printers should be aware of potential licensing agreements, restrictions on using third-party ink cartridges, and the implications of recent legal challenges concerning these practices. Understanding these potential legal pitfalls can help businesses avoid costly litigation and ensure compliance.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s insights underscore the crucial need for businesses to proactively navigate the legal complexities surrounding printer technology. The potential implications of overlooking licensing agreements and restrictions can indeed be substantial, making due diligence and a clear understanding of one’s rights and obligations essential. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for providing this valuable perspective on a critical issue for businesses utilizing Lexmark printers.

Fabio Rosa, Marketing and Product Manager for Latin America, led the presentation to specialized media and distributors. He highlighted the significance of the Series 9 A3 models, emphasizing their role in complementing Lexmark’s existing A4 offerings.

These devices, Lexmark’s largest, complement our A4 equipment, giving clients and channels more printing options with increased robustness, sustainability, and other features that the market strongly demands today.
Fabio Rosa, Marketing and Product Manager for Latin America

Rosa further explained that these printers are ideal for managed print services (MPS) projects, where consolidating multiple A4 devices into a single, efficient unit is desired, as well as for small print shops, graphic sectors, and specialized applications like label, medical image, poster, or banner printing.

Versatility is a hallmark of the Series 9. With eight configurable models and modular input and output accessories, the devices adapt to various environments. They all share the same technology and consumables, support formats up to SRA3 and 300 gsm paper, and offer print speeds between 25 and 55 pages per minute (ppm) and up to 240 images per minute (ipm) for scanning.

Ease of use is also prioritized. A large, Android-based touch panel simplifies navigation, allows for custom app installation, and provides step-by-step video guides for routine tasks. Maintenance is designed for user-friendliness, with one-handed consumable replacement, tool-free access to internal components, and full disassembly requiring only two screwdrivers. This reduces the need for technical assistance.

Lexmark emphasizes the sustainability of the Series 9, with over 50% of the plastic used in manufacturing coming from recycled materials. Both devices and components are designed for a minimum seven-year lifespan, and the fusion unit can print up to 400,000 pages before replacement. The company’s long-standing cartridge and toner recycling program further reinforces its environmental commitment.

Integration with digitalization and automation processes is another key advantage. The Android-like front panel enables custom application execution for specific organizational needs. Security is paramount, with all Series 9 models featuring chip-level encryption and leveraging Microsoft Azure cloud services for secure data management.

The new models, including the CX950se, CX951se, CX962se, CX963se, and the high-performance A4 color model CX833se, are available through authorized Lexmark wholesalers in Guatemala and Costa Rica. With the Series 9, Lexmark delivers robust and sustainable solutions tailored for the evolving demands of productivity, automation, and digital transformation.
