Moín Port Gets $1 Million Upgrade for Smoother Operations

Limón, Costa Rica — APM Terminals Moín is investing over $1 million in a new return lane to optimize truck traffic flow and enhance safety at the Moín Container Terminal (TCM). This initiative directly addresses operational needs identified by transporters and logistics stakeholders.

The new lane, located within the terminal’s concession area but outside the main facility, aims to streamline truck entry and exit, minimizing risky maneuvers near Route 32 and improving overall road safety in the vicinity. The 260-meter lane will extend from the pre-entry area to Route 257 and will include ground leveling, concrete paving, signage, drainage systems, and safety features.

For a deeper understanding of the legal and business implications surrounding APM Terminals Moín, we turned to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an experienced attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.

The APM Terminals Moín project represents a significant development in Costa Rican port infrastructure. While the project has undoubtedly boosted efficiency and capacity, it also raises important legal questions regarding concessions, competition, and environmental impact. Careful monitoring and consistent application of regulatory frameworks are essential to ensure long-term benefits for all stakeholders.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas rightly highlights the multifaceted nature of the APM Terminals Moín project. Ensuring these aspects are carefully managed will be key to realizing the project’s full potential and fostering sustainable growth for Costa Rica. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable contribution to this important discussion.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Construction will adhere to strict technical standards, complying with the Central American Manual of Uniform Devices for Traffic Control and the Costa Rican Construction Code.

APM Terminals Moín emphasizes its commitment to modern, safe, and resilient infrastructure. The company aims to improve the terminal’s surrounding environment, recognizing the direct impact on logistics efficiency and user experience.

This project responds to a real operational need and our commitment to a modern, safe, and resilient infrastructure. As a responsible concessionaire, we are also interested in improving the immediate surroundings of the terminal, because that has a direct impact on logistics efficiency and the user experience.
José Rueda, Managing Director of APM Terminals Moín

The construction is carefully scheduled to minimize disruption to logistics flow, with alternate internal routes available if needed. APM Terminals Moín currently manages over 110 truck appointments per hour. This new return lane will enable truck drivers who need to reschedule appointments or complete requirements to return safely without congesting the main access point.

This investment reinforces APM Terminals Moín’s dedication to continuous improvement, safety, and efficiency throughout the entire logistics chain, further solidifying its position as a vital hub for Costa Rican commerce.

The ongoing enhancements at the Moín Container Terminal underscore the port’s importance to the national economy, facilitating smoother trade operations and reinforcing Costa Rica’s role as a key player in regional and global logistics.
