Mondelēz International Boosts Sustainability with New Electric Vehicle Fleet

San José, Costa Rica — In a significant stride towards environmental sustainability, Mondelez International has announced the acquisition of a fully electric vehicle fleet for its operations in Costa Rica.

This strategic move involves the procurement of 17 Peugeot e-2008 electric vehicles through a four-year renting contract with Veinsa and Sixt Rent A Car.

By adopting a fleet of electric vehicles, Mondelez International reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability, taking a decisive step towards a greener and more responsible future.

Ezequiel Collica, the General Manager of Mondelez International in Costa Rica

This initiative is part of Mondelez’s broader goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, a commitment solidified through its alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative’s Net Zero Carbon program.

The environmental benefits of this transition are substantial:
The new electric fleet is expected to prevent approximately 46,580 kilograms of CO2 emissions annually. Each Peugeot e-2008, with its 100 kW electric motor and 345 km range, will play a crucial role in reducing the company’s carbon footprint. The move not only cuts down on fossil fuel consumption but also contributes to cleaner air and reduced noise pollution.

Veinsa and Sixt Rent A Car, through our flexRenting service, offer Mondelez electric mobility to meet its sustainability goals. We will manage all preventive and corrective maintenance 24/7, ensuring seamless operation of all units and addressing any incidents promptly

Alex Jensen, General Manager of Sixt Rent A Car

Mondelez’s transition to an electric fleet is in line with the growing trend of electric vehicle adoption in Costa Rica.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy (Minae), electric vehicles represented 15% of the country’s automobile imports by May 2024, underscoring a national shift towards sustainable transportation solutions.

This initiative also extends benefits to Mondelez employees, who can opt for renting under transparent and accessible terms, further embedding sustainability within the company’s culture.

With this bold step, Mondelez International not only advances its sustainability agenda but also sets a benchmark for other corporations aiming to reduce their environmental impact.
