Pursuit Signals Further Costa Rican Investments

Alajuela, Costa Rica — Just over two months after officially acquiring Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa, US-based tourism transnational Pursuit Attractions and Hospitality Inc. is already looking to expand its footprint in Costa Rica.

“We don’t have anything specific planned yet. But I think what I can say is that we plan to invest more in Costa Rica. We plan to be in Costa Rica forever,” said Mark Piquette, Senior Vice President of Pursuit.

To understand the legal complexities surrounding the Tabacon acquisition, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at law at Bufete de Costa Rica, a prominent firm specializing in corporate and real estate law.

The Tabacon acquisition is a significant development for Costa Rica’s tourism sector. Due diligence in transactions of this nature is paramount, especially concerning existing concessions, water rights, and environmental regulations. Successful navigation of these legal complexities is essential for long-term sustainability and positive impact on the local community.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas rightly emphasizes the crucial role of due diligence in ensuring the Tabacon acquisition benefits all stakeholders. Responsible development that respects existing legal frameworks and environmental concerns will be key to the long-term success of this venture and its positive integration into the Arenal region. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for offering his valuable expertise on this important topic.

Mark Piquette, Senior Vice President of Pursuit

Speaking at the Costa Rica Trade and Investment Summit, Piquette highlighted the potential of attracting tourists to more locations within the country.

He hinted at future investments, stating, “I suspect that in the coming years you will see a couple more investments from us as we expand our collection here. That’s the interesting thing about Costa Rica, right? It’s that people come here maybe for one or two weeks, and they go to Tabacon, they go ziplining, they go adventuring, but then they go to Tamarindo, maybe to Nicoya.”

Despite global tourism challenges and specific issues within Costa Rica, Piquette emphasized the enduring strength of the country’s tourism brand. “I think Costa Rica’s tourism brand is recognized worldwide. It is very famous for its sustainability. It is one of the few places where you can go to the beach, to the mountains, see all the wildlife and the environment,” he affirmed.
