After months of focusing on the internal and lower sections of the structure, crews are now scheduled to begin interventions on the bridge’s driving surface. For the entirety of Holy Week, from March 28 through April 5, both lanes of the bridge will be fully open to traffic. However, the restrictions will resume shortly after the holiday period. A second phase of single-lane passage is scheduled from Monday, May 4, to Saturday, May 9, as work on the road surface continues. Drivers should once again anticipate delays similar to those experienced in the pre-Holy Week phase.
In addition to the single-lane restrictions, the project requires a series of complete overnight closures for the installation of advanced seismic isolators. These full closures, affecting both lanes, are scheduled to occur between March 15 and April 20, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. MOPT officials clarified that these closures will not be continuous throughout the entire period but will take place on specific, pre-announced nights. The ministry has committed to publishing a detailed schedule for these overnight shutdowns closer to the start date to give the public ample warning.
This comprehensive overhaul of the Tárcoles bridge is a significant infrastructure investment, costing approximately $6.7 million. The project is a key component of the Emergency Program for the Comprehensive and Resilient Reconstruction of Infrastructure (PROERI), an initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s critical transport links against natural disasters.
