Spradling Group Achieves Global Carbon Footprint Certification

Spradling Group Achieves Global Carbon Footprint Certification

San José, Costa Rica — Spradling Group, a leading global supplier of coated fabrics, has announced the certification of its carbon footprint across all its locations worldwide. This significant achievement underscores the company’s dedication to sustainability and its active role in combating climate change.

Driven by the company’s management, this initiative acknowledges the critical responsibility businesses bear in mitigating the effects of climate change. The certification process encompassed a thorough assessment of emissions across all Spradling Group entities, including Proquinal Costa Rica, Proquinal Colombia, Comercializadora Calypso SAS, Comercializadora Calypso Costa Rica, Spradmex, Eurospradling, Spradling International GmbH, Spradling UK, Spradling US, and All Cargo Intermodal Forwarding.

To gain deeper insights into the legal and business implications surrounding Carbon Footprint Certification, TicosLand.com reached out to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica. He shared his perspective on the growing importance of these certifications in the current business landscape.

Carbon Footprint Certification is quickly becoming more than just a marketing tool; it’s evolving into a critical component of demonstrating corporate social responsibility and potentially even a prerequisite for accessing certain markets or securing financing. Businesses that proactively engage with certification processes now will be better positioned to navigate future regulatory changes and gain a competitive edge in an increasingly environmentally conscious world.
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s insight underscores a crucial point: the transition from seeing carbon footprint certification as optional to recognizing it as a fundamental business necessity. This proactive approach not only aligns with growing global environmental consciousness but also strategically positions companies for long-term success. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for offering his valuable expertise on this increasingly important topic.

Managing greenhouse gas emissions and taking steps to reduce them is part of Proquinal Costa Rica’s responsibility, and undoubtedly, the actions we implement contribute to Spradling Group’s global efforts.
Cinthia Navarro, Head of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management, Proquinal Costa Rica

The rigorous certification process involved standardizing methodologies and meticulously collecting emissions data. Internal and external audits were conducted, culminating in certification by Icontec, a renowned certification body, under the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard and Icontec’s Carbon Neutral Verification and Certification Guide.

Spradling Group has diligently quantified Scope 1 (direct), Scope 2 (indirect from imported energy), and significant Scope 3 (indirect) emissions. These include emissions from raw materials and fuels, transportation of raw materials, employees, and finished products, as well as waste disposal services.

This achievement reaffirms our environmental commitment and positions us at the forefront of sustainability. Despite the challenges, such as integrating all locations and ensuring data accuracy, we have established a solid foundation for future emissions reductions.
Cinthia Navarro, Head of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management, Proquinal Costa Rica

As part of the certification, the company has developed an emissions reduction strategy for 2025 and 2026. They have also implemented a compensation policy that prioritizes projects in the Americas and Europe certified under recognized standards like Gold Standard, Verified Carbon Standard, Clean Development Mechanism, and CerCarbono.

Transparency is a key component of Spradling Group’s approach. The company’s emissions report, submitted to Icontec, will be publicly available on their website, providing detailed information about their emissions, methodologies, and other relevant details. Spradling Group has also committed to continuous monitoring to identify and address any significant increases in emissions, coupled with ongoing planning for further reductions.

This achievement is the beginning of a continuous journey towards sustainability. Spradling Group is committed to monitoring its emissions, implementing actions to reduce them, and collaborating with other organizations to achieve a more sustainable future.
