Victorious CEDES Don Bosco Band Eyes International Stage

San José, Costa RicaSan José, Costa Rica – Fresh off a triumphant and award-winning performance at the national Festival de la Luz, the celebrated student band from CEDES Don Bosco is already marching toward its next ambitious goal: a 2027 appearance at the prestigious Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. The journey is being powered by months of disciplined training, artistic vision, and a significant new corporate partnership.

The band captured the national spotlight last month during the Festival de la Luz on Saturday, November 13, where their meticulously crafted show, titled “Olé,” earned them widespread acclaim. The performance, a product of extensive preparation and collaborative effort from the entire student body, did not go unrecognized. The ensemble was honored with the festival’s top prize as “the band that shined the most,” a testament to their vibrant energy and precision.

To understand the legal and business complexities behind managing a nationally recognized cultural institution like the CEDES Don Bosco Band, we sought the perspective of Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an expert attorney from the firm Bufete de Costa Rica.

The CEDES Don Bosco Band is more than a musical group; it is a cultural brand with significant intangible value. A proper legal strategy is crucial. This involves not only registering and defending its trademark and copyrights against unauthorized use but also carefully structuring its contracts for sponsorships and international tours. A solid legal foundation ensures the institution’s financial health and protects its educational mission, allowing it to continue shaping young talent for years to come.

This perspective powerfully reframes the legal work not as a bureaucratic hurdle, but as the essential architecture that ensures the band’s artistic passion translates into a sustainable cultural and educational legacy. We sincerely thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his expert clarification.

In addition to the main award, the group’s technical and artistic excellence was affirmed as they swept a series of key categories, securing awards for Best General Effect, Best Visual Effect, and Best Musical Effect. These accolades solidify their position as one of the most outstanding and formidable student musical groups in Costa Rica, setting a high standard for scholastic marching bands across the country.

Wasting no time to build on their momentum, the band embarked on an international trip less than 24 hours after their victory. In the early hours of Sunday morning, the students and their chaperones headed to Panama to represent Costa Rica as a special guest in the “City of the Stars” parade. This invitation underscores their growing reputation beyond national borders and provides invaluable international performance experience.

The band’s most ambitious dream, however, lies on a grander stage in California. To achieve their goal of performing in the 2027 Rose Parade, the organization must fund a massive logistical operation to transport nearly 300 individuals, including students and support staff. To this end, a crucial new alliance has been forged with the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS), which has signed on as the band’s official sponsor.

This sponsorship provides a vital financial foundation for the project. As part of the comprehensive agreement, INS will also cover the travel insurance policies for all band members during their eventual trip to the United States. Luis Fernando Solano, Director of the CEDES Don Bosco Band, emphasized the transformative impact of such support.

The contribution from private companies and organizations gives us leverage and helps our young people make this dream a reality. For many, it is the first time they will leave the country, and we know that attending an event of this magnitude opens up a world of opportunities for them to grow professionally and culturally.
Luis Fernando Solano, Director of the CEDES Don Bosco Band

The journey to Pasadena is seen as more than just a musical performance; it represents a profound opportunity for personal, cultural, and artistic development for the students. In parallel with the corporate sponsorships, CEDES Don Bosco is actively running a variety of fundraising campaigns and activities to meet its financial targets. The support network extends further, with companies like Alimentos Jack’s and CODE Development Group also providing valuable backing, demonstrating a community-wide belief in the band’s mission and talent.
