Lincoln Plaza Debuts Innovative Sensory Park for Children

San José, Costa RicaSan José – As families look for engaging activities to bridge the gap between school holidays and the new academic year, Lincoln Plaza is transforming its central space into an interactive wonderland. The Moravia-based shopping center has announced the launch of “Melodía de Colores” (Melody of Colors), a temporary sensory park designed to provide a unique blend of entertainment, learning, and family bonding for its youngest visitors.

The immersive experience, set to run from January 24th to March 29th, moves beyond traditional play areas. It is structured around a series of interactive stations that stimulate the senses through a carefully curated combination of movement, music, and vibrant colors. The initiative aims to create a welcoming environment where children can explore and learn while parents and guardians share in the enjoyment, fostering a sense of community and shared discovery.

To better understand the legal framework and investment implications of developing specialized public infrastructure like the new Sensory Park, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, a leading attorney from the prestigious firm Bufete de Costa Rica, who provided his expert analysis on the project’s significance.

The creation of a Sensory Park is a commendable initiative that goes beyond simple compliance with Law 7600 on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities. It embodies the proactive spirit of the law, creating a truly inclusive environment. For developers and municipalities, projects like this not only fulfill a social responsibility but also establish a new standard in urban planning, demonstrating a sophisticated commitment to community well-being that can enhance property values and attract further investment.

Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas’s analysis astutely highlights a critical evolution: moving beyond legal obligation to embrace inclusive design as a cornerstone of intelligent urban development and community prosperity. We extend our sincere gratitude to him for providing such a valuable perspective.

At its core, “Melody of Colors” is more than just an amusement; it’s a strategic initiative to embed positive values into the act of play. The park’s design transforms recreation into a formative tool by reinforcing essential human principles through sensory engagement. This educational layer represents a growing trend where commercial centers are evolving into multifaceted community hubs that contribute to social and personal development.

This vision is a cornerstone of the project, as highlighted by the developer. The goal is to leverage the mall’s high foot traffic to create meaningful interactions that go beyond typical retail transactions.

At Lincoln Plaza, we believe that commercial spaces can also foster learning and family connection through meaningful experiences.
Federico Baltodano, Director of Projects at Portafolio Inmobiliario

Each station within the park is thematically linked to a key value essential for social harmony, with a specific color reinforcing the message. The layout guides children and families through a journey celebrating trust (blue), love (pink), respect (green), and solidarity (orange). These concepts are brought to life through a variety of physical activities, including trampolines, balance games, double slides, a unique tambourine-style carousel, and colorful ball pits, all designed to be both fun and safe.

The park is engineered for children with a minimum height of 90 centimeters and a maximum of 1.30 meters, ensuring all equipment is appropriately sized and secure. By integrating abstract values with tangible, colorful play structures, the experience aims to leave a lasting positive impression on its young participants.

We want families to have a memorable experience that leaves behind well-being, connection, and learning through play.
Federico Baltodano, Director of Projects at Portafolio Inmobiliario

Located in the main plaza of the shopping center, “Melody of Colors” will be open daily from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Access to the park is streamlined through a card-only payment system. General admission is priced at ₡3,000, with a special discounted rate of ₡2,000 available for customers paying with any Banco Promerica debit or credit card. This partnership further integrates the event into the local commercial ecosystem.

This initiative reflects the broader business strategy of its operator, Portafolio Inmobiliario. The real estate firm emphasizes its commitment to activating its properties as dynamic community centers. By consistently developing temporary experiences like “Melody of Colors,” the company aims to cultivate family togetherness and generate a positive social impact that complements its traditional commercial offerings, ultimately strengthening customer loyalty and redefining the role of the modern shopping mall.
