This quarter marks a significant step towards a fully digital experience at UNED. The university has implemented a “zero cash” policy, meaning all payments for tuition and services must be made via debit or credit card, or electronic transfer. This move streamlines administrative processes and enhances security for students.

With the implementation of zero cash, technological improvements, and the integration of Unedia, we are taking a firm step towards a more agile, inclusive, and modern university. These tools represent an excellent opportunity to move towards more efficient and effective management, benefiting the entire university community.
Roger Jiménez Morales, Head of the Treasury Office

Further enhancing the online experience, UNED continues to leverage its innovative virtual assistant, Unedia. This AI-powered metahuman provides 24/7 support to students, offering personalized guidance on academic offerings, enrollment procedures, and university services through natural language conversation.

Unedia offers personalized guidance in real time on academic offerings, enrollment processes, and university services, simulating a natural conversation with each user. It has generated acceptance and usefulness for current and potential students.
Raquel Zeledón Sánchez, Vice-rector of Student Life

The introduction of Unedia represents a pioneering effort within Costa Rican public universities to integrate AI into student services. This commitment to technological advancement underscores UNED’s dedication to providing a seamless and accessible learning environment for all its students.
