UTN’s Vice-Rector of Teaching, Luis Ricardo Sánchez, highlighted the institution’s focus on contributing to Costa Rica’s economic growth.
Our educational model prioritizes the growth and economic development of the country through comprehensive training aligned with the demands of the current labor market. We develop diverse areas of knowledge, including programs in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
Luis Ricardo Sánchez, Vice-Rector of Teaching
With 36 diverse career paths, UTN offers programs in Engineering, Technology, Administrative Sciences, Agriculture, Arts, and Humanities. The university promotes early employability through university diplomas as a lateral exit, allowing students to enter the workforce quickly while continuing their professional studies.
Nineteen of UTN’s programs concentrate on STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), aligning with the current needs of the national productive sector.
Demonstrating its dedication to academic excellence, the UTN has 13 programs accredited by SINAES (National System of Accreditation of Higher Education), with one currently undergoing self-evaluation and another awaiting a decision. The university also fosters agreements with institutions like the Ministry of Public Education (MEP), the National Institute of Learning (INA), and pre-university colleges to facilitate access to higher education.
Admission is primarily based on high school grades, but affirmative action policies are also in place to guarantee equitable access for students in vulnerable situations, in accordance with current regulations.
To apply, prospective students should consult the Admissions Policy and Protocol on the UTN admissions website. The application itself must be submitted through the SIGU system between August 5th and September 19th, 2025. Academic data will be available starting October 13th, 2025, with preliminary admission scores released on November 12th and final scores on November 25th, also in SIGU. Matriculation appointments and requirements will be available starting December 4th, 2025, on the official UTN portal.
