Walmart Announces $600 Million Investment in Costa Rica

Alajuela, Costa Rica — Walmart Centroamérica has announced a substantial $600 million investment in Costa Rica, set to be implemented over the next five years. This strategic move highlights Walmart’s commitment to enhancing its supply chain infrastructure and boosting the local economy.

A significant portion of the investment will fund the construction of a new perishable goods distribution center in El Coyol de Alajuela. This advanced facility aims to streamline logistics operations, ensuring fresher products for consumers and reinforcing Walmart’s promise of everyday low prices.

The investment is expected to create approximately 3,000 direct jobs across various roles, including logistics, supply chain management, administrative, and operational positions. This job creation effort is anticipated to have a positive ripple effect on the local economy, providing stable employment opportunities and promoting skill development among the Costa Rican workforce.

Additionally, Walmart’s investment strategy places a strong emphasis on strengthening relationships with local producers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

By incorporating more locally sourced products into its supply chain, Walmart aims to support Costa Rican businesses and offer consumers a wider variety of local goods.

This initiative aligns with Walmart’s broader sustainability goals and its commitment to community support and development.

Our goal is to bring our low prices closer to all Costa Ricans, especially those with fewer resources. This investment is a testament to our commitment to providing affordable goods while supporting local economic growth and sustainability.

Cristina Ronksi, CEO of Walmart Centroamérica

This significant investment is part of Walmart’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Central America and enhance operational efficiencies.

By investing in modern infrastructure and fostering strong local partnerships, Walmart aims to solidify its position as a leading retailer in the region, delivering value and quality to its customers.
