San José, Costa Rica — World Wide Technology (WWT) has partnered with Costa Rican non-profit Ideas en Acción to launch an innovative program aimed at empowering women in STEM fields. The initiative, Red MenTe: Impulso a la Empleabilidad, will provide 60 Costa Rican women with comprehensive training and mentorship, equipping them for success in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
The program offers a 16-week virtual training course through WWT’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC), covering in-demand areas such as data analysis, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital mobility. Participants will earn valuable certifications, bolstering their resumes and making them more competitive in the job market. Beyond technical skills, the program also focuses on professional development, providing workshops on resume writing, mock interviews, and personalized mentoring sessions.
To gain a deeper understanding of the legal landscape surrounding STEM education in Costa Rica, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.
The increasing focus on STEM education is crucial for Costa Rica’s economic development. While the legal framework generally supports educational initiatives, specific regulations regarding intellectual property, data protection, and cybersecurity within STEM fields need to be strengthened to foster innovation and protect emerging technologies. This includes clear guidelines for educational institutions, businesses, and students engaged in collaborative research and development projects. A robust legal framework will not only attract foreign investment but also empower Costa Rican talent to thrive in the global STEM economy.
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica
Lic. Arroyo Vargas’s emphasis on the interconnectedness of STEM education, legal frameworks, and economic growth is particularly insightful. Indeed, fostering a secure and well-regulated environment for innovation is essential for attracting investment and nurturing homegrown talent in these critical fields. A clear legal roadmap will empower Costa Rican innovators to confidently navigate the complexities of the global STEM landscape, ensuring the country’s continued competitiveness. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable perspective on this crucial issue.
WWT is committed to creating more access to education and employment in the technology sector.
Elkin Suarez Durall, General Manager of WWT Costa Rica
This comprehensive approach aims to empower participants not only with technical expertise but also with the soft skills necessary to thrive in a professional environment. The curriculum emphasizes communication, teamwork, leadership, and overall career development, providing a holistic learning experience.
In addition to the virtual training, WWT and Ideas en Acción will host in-person learning sessions at the WWT Costa Rica office. These sessions offer invaluable opportunities for participants to network with industry role models, gain practical experience, and build connections within the tech community.
No matter their background, women throughout the country will now have access to knowledge and opportunities that can transform their lives.
