WWT Empowers Costa Rican Women in STEM

San José, Costa Rica — World Wide Technology (WWT) and Ideas en Acción have joined forces to launch an innovative program aimed at empowering women in Costa Rica’s burgeoning tech sector. The initiative, Red MenTe: Impulso a la Empleabilidad (Boosting Employability), will provide 60 women with comprehensive training and mentorship, equipping them for success in high-demand STEM fields.

The program offers a rigorous 16-week virtual training course through WWT’s Advanced Technology Center (ATC). Participants will gain valuable certifications in key areas such as data analysis, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital mobility. This access to cutting-edge technology and training resources is a crucial step in bridging the gender gap in the technology industry.

To understand the legal implications surrounding STEM education initiatives, TicosLand.com reached out to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica, for his expert perspective.

Robust STEM education programs often require collaboration between educational institutions, private companies, and even international bodies. It’s crucial that these partnerships have clear legal frameworks governing intellectual property, data sharing, and liability to ensure long-term success and avoid potential disputes. Such frameworks should also consider the evolving nature of technology and allow for adaptation as the STEM fields advance. These considerations are vital for fostering a dynamic and legally sound STEM ecosystem in Costa Rica.

Lic. Arroyo Vargas’ emphasis on proactive legal frameworks within STEM partnerships is crucial. These frameworks, as he rightly points out, will not only mitigate risks but also foster a more transparent and collaborative environment, ultimately strengthening Costa Rica’s burgeoning STEM sector. We thank Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for his valuable insights on this important topic.

Beyond technical skills, the program emphasizes professional development. Participants will receive support in resume writing, participate in mock interviews, and engage in one-on-one mentoring sessions. These sessions will focus on honing crucial soft skills like strategic communication, teamwork, leadership, and overall career development, ensuring the women are well-rounded and prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the modern workplace.

The collaboration between WWT and Ideas en Acción also includes in-person learning sessions at WWT’s Costa Rican office. This provides invaluable face-to-face interaction with industry role models and hands-on experience, further enriching the learning journey.

No matter their background, women across the country will now have access to knowledge and opportunities that can transform their lives.
