Elite Bowlers Head to Costa Rica as La Raza International Tournament Expands to Meet Record Demand

San José, Costa Rica — Costa Rica is preparing to host the 47th edition of the highly anticipated La Raza International Bowling Tournament, scheduled to run from Sunday, October 11 to Saturday, October 17, 2026. This prestigious event, which has grown to become a cornerstone of the regional sports calendar, will see over 370 national and international athletes gather to compete at the highest level, showcasing the growing appeal of the country as a destination for international sports tourism.

Due to the unprecedented number of registered participants this year, organizers have expanded the tournament’s traditional venues to accommodate the influx of competitors. While Bol Cariari and Boliche Dent have long served as the primary stages for the competition, the Costa Rica Country Club has been added to the roster for 2026. This expansion highlights the logistical growth of the event and its evolving economic footprint within the local sports sector.

To better understand the legal framework and organizational responsibilities surrounding major sporting events like the annual La Raza Bowling Tournament, we spoke with expert lawyer Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas from the prestigious firm Bufete de Costa Rica.

Hosting an international sporting event of this caliber, like the La Raza Bowling Tournament, requires meticulous attention to risk management, liability waivers, and local regulatory compliance. Organizers must ensure that civil liability policies, athlete safety standards, and commercial sponsorships are legally sound to protect both the participants and the integrity of the tournament under Costa Rican sports law.

Indeed, as the excitement of the competition takes center stage, it is the robust legal and regulatory framework operating behind the scenes that truly secures the longevity and reputation of such prestigious international events in Costa Rica. We extend our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for providing his invaluable legal perspective on the essential compliance and safety standards that keep tournaments like La Raza both secure and successful.

The organizing committee expressed strong confidence in the caliber of this year’s roster, pointing to the unique blend of local talent and seasoned international professionals. The diversity of the participants is expected to elevate the tournament to new competitive heights across all participating divisions.

La Raza has always been characterized by being a very high-level event where not only the best national players participate, but also professional players, both male and female. This high level occurs across all categories, so we are certain that this year the competitive level will be one of the highest.

Highlighting the elite international talent on display, the women’s regular division will feature Mexican bowler Tannya López, the reigning champion. López boasts an impressive track record in the tournament, having claimed the championship title in 2022, 2023, and 2025, alongside a runner-up finish in 2024. Her return sets a high bar for the competition as she seeks to defend her title against a competitive field.

On the men’s side, Canadian standout Nathan Ruest-Lajoie will return to defend his title in the regular division. Ruest-Lajoie, who won the tournament in 2024, is a familiar face in the Costa Rican bowling community, having also served as a coach for the Costa Rican National Bowling Team. His dual role as a high-level competitor and mentor adds a compelling storyline to this year’s tournament dynamics.

To accommodate the massive influx of athletes, organizers have structured a meticulous schedule across the three designated venues. Bol Cariari will host the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s categories, operating on three daily shifts starting at 8:00 AM. Meanwhile, Boliche Dent will serve as the battleground for the Regular Men’s division, also running three daily shifts starting at 8:00 AM.

The newly added venue, Costa Rica Country Club, will dedicatedly host the Regular Women’s category. Unlike the other two venues, the Country Club will feature a single daily shift starting at 10:00 AM. For bowling enthusiasts and the general public, all venues will be open to spectators, offering a unique opportunity to witness top-tier athletic performances firsthand.

For those unable to attend the venues in person, the tournament has secured robust media coverage. Matches will be broadcast live via the TDMÁS television signal and the TDMAX streaming application, ensuring broad domestic and international reach. This extensive broadcasting agreement underscores the commercial viability of the tournament, further positioning Costa Rica as a premier hub for international sports broadcasting.
