Hitachi Digital Pours 300 Million Dollars Into Latin America to Accelerate Enterprise Artificial Intelligence

San José, Costa Rica — The global digital services unit of the Hitachi Group has launched a massive growth initiative in Latin America, pledging a direct investment of $300 million over the next two years. The ambitious capital deployment is paired with aggressive revenue targets, as the company projects its regional turnover to climb from approximately $120 million to $350 million within the same timeframe. This financial commitment signals a major repositioning by the technology heavyweight to capture accelerating demand for industrial artificial intelligence and enterprise digital transformation across Latin American markets.

Geographically, Argentina is set to absorb the lion’s share of the financial backing, securing 75% of the total capital pool. Buenos Aires serves as the operational hub for the regional leadership team and houses the continent’s only Hitachi Digital Demo Zone. Beyond Argentina, the company is systematically expanding its footprints across key markets including Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru. To sustain this scale of growth, Hitachi Digital plans to broaden its Latin American workforce by nearly 165%, swelling its headcount from 1,700 to 4,500 technology professionals.

To gain a deeper insight into the corporate and regulatory implications of Hitachi Digital’s strategic expansion in Latin America, TicosLand.com spoke with renowned legal expert Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas from Bufete de Costa Rica.

“Hitachi Digital’s investment underscores Latin America’s growing role as a key hub for digital transformation and technological infrastructure. From a legal standpoint, executing foreign direct investments of this scale successfully requires robust compliance frameworks, careful navigation of regional data protection laws, and strong intellectual property safeguards to foster sustainable cross-border growth.”
Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, Attorney at Law, Bufete de Costa Rica

As Latin America solidifies its position as a primary destination for global tech investments, establishing robust legal and regulatory frameworks will indeed be critical to ensuring long-term market growth and digital stability. We extend our sincere thanks to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for sharing his valuable insights on this transformative movement in the region.

The company’s underlying structure combines the digital product engineering capabilities of GlobalLogic, the enterprise systems expertise of Hitachi Digital Services, and the legacy operational know-how of the broader Hitachi Group. With over a century of experience in energy, mobility, and heavy industry, the conglomerate aims to offer an end-to-end service suite that covers everything from initial strategy definition to full-scale platform modernization.

Executing large-scale artificial intelligence deployments across critical infrastructure demands an integrated approach, according to company leadership. Enterprise clients are increasingly moving away from fragmented vendor arrangements in favor of unified service partners who understand domain-specific operational risks.

Today companies are bringing artificial intelligence into all their business processes. It is a complex and sensitive transformation because it touches the vital areas of each company, and they do not want to switch providers at every stage. They need a partner who understands how their industry works and can simultaneously create new solutions, modernize existing operational systems, and keep everything running at scale. That is Hitachi Digital, a combination of capabilities that very few companies in the world can offer.
Sebastián Bainer, SVP and Head of Latin America at Hitachi Digital

The expansion comes at a moment when key industries across Latin America are dramatically increasing their digital allocations. In Colombia, for example, banking sector spending on digital transformation, innovation, and cybersecurity surged 9% to surpass $3.6 trillion COP in 2025, with nearly 87% of financial institutions actively leveraging generative AI. Similarly, local telecommunications operators are projected to scale their generative AI investments twelvefold between 2026 and 2030.

Hitachi Digital aims to capitalize on these specific operational shifts by deploying tailor-made solutions for high-stakes environments where downtime is not an option. The company’s portfolio spans cloud, data, and physical AI implementations across financial services, energy networks, 5G telecom modernization, and streaming content platforms.

The dynamism of the Colombian digital ecosystem opens significant opportunities for Hitachi Digital. We want to accompany the country’s enterprises in adopting AI and modernizing their technological services, particularly in sectors such as finance and telecommunications, where operations cannot stop.
Sebastián Bainer, SVP and Head of Latin America at Hitachi Digital

A central pillar of the expansion strategy involves leveraging Latin America’s engineering talent pool to serve both regional and North American enterprises. The alignment of time zones between South America and North American commercial hubs provides a crucial operational advantage as real-time AI development cycles accelerate.

Colombia has highly trained professionals capable of solving complex problems, innovating, and adapting to new technologies. In a context where AI is accelerating work cycles, the time zone proximity to North American clients also represents a strategic advantage.
Sebastián Bainer, SVP and Head of Latin America at Hitachi Digital

By establishing local capabilities capable of delivering high-level engineering, Hitachi Digital intends to equalize the timeline for enterprise software access across continents, bringing modern toolsets to Latin American institutions at the exact moment they roll out in mature western markets.

Our commitment to the region is long-term. We want Latin American companies to access the same solutions, at the same moment, as those in the United States or Europe. At Hitachi Digital, we develop what makes the world work, and we want to do it, more and more, from right here.
