Classic Chevy Festival in San José Highlights Brand Loyalty and Modern Sales Push

San José, Costa Rica — The intersection of automotive nostalgia and modern consumer engagement is taking center stage in San José as the third edition of the Chevy Fan Weekend approaches. Experiential marketing has increasingly become a cornerstone for automotive distributors in Costa Rica, and this free three-day public exhibition demonstrates how heritage can be leveraged to drive contemporary dealership traffic. Scheduled from September 11 to September 13, the event will transform the Chevrolet Uruca showroom into a living museum, showcasing more than 20 historic vehicles from various eras.

Distributors are finding that static showrooms must evolve into destination-driven spaces to capture consumer interest in a competitive market. The event schedule is designed to maximize foot traffic throughout the weekend, kicking off on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and continuing on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. By pairing historic preservation with family-focused entertainment, the dealership aims to break down the traditional high-pressure sales environment and replace it with a community-centric brand experience.

As excitement builds for the upcoming Chevy Fan Weekend Costa Rica, TicosLand.com sat down with prominent legal expert Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas of the prestigious firm Bufete de Costa Rica to explore the legal compliance and liability standards crucial for hosting such large-scale automotive events.

Hosting public automotive exhibitions like the Chevy Fan Weekend in Costa Rica demands a comprehensive understanding of local municipal permits, Ministry of Health regulations, and civil liability insurance. Ensuring that all participating modified and classic vehicles meet safety standards while securing robust third-party liability coverage is essential to shield organizers from legal exposure and protect the passionate community of Chevy enthusiasts.

Indeed, navigating these regulatory frameworks is vital, as ensuring rigorous safety and legal compliance not only protects organizers but also guarantees that the passion for Costa Rica’s automotive culture can be celebrated safely and sustainably. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for providing this crucial legal perspective, which underscores the responsibility required to keep such beloved community traditions thriving.

To keep multi-generational families engaged, the dealership has curated a diverse entertainment lineup. The schedule features a clown show on Friday at 3:00 p.m., a live presentation on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and a traditional Costa Rican cimarrona band on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Additionally, attendees can enjoy inflatables, music, popcorn, traditional local food, and custom ice pops dubbed Chevroletas, which will be available during designated hours while supplies last.

The curated selection of vehicles on display reflects nearly a century of automotive design and engineering. Enthusiasts will have the rare opportunity to observe iconic models such as the 1927 Capitol AA, 1957 and 1958 Apache trucks, 1957 and 1959 Bel Airs, a 1964 Impala, a 1966 Apache C30, and a 1967 Camaro SS. The showcase continues through later decades with a 1971 Suburban, 1974 and 1975 Caprice models, a 1977 Silverado, multiple 1979 Corvettes—including a Stingray and a C3—alongside a 1979 Malibu, a 1981 Blazer K5, a 1989 Cadillac Brougham, and a modern 2013 Camaro RS.

Each of the vehicles participating in this festival reflects the quality and durability that have distinguished Chevrolet over the years. Many of these classics are several decades old and continue to roam the streets, demonstrating why they have managed to transcend generations. Additionally, we have prepared a series of activities to keep attendees entertained as a family.

While the event celebrates the past, it also serves as a strategic sales funnel for Grupo Q. Dealerships frequently utilize historic exhibitions to attract high-intent buyers who may be contemplating a new vehicle purchase. Throughout the festival, Chevrolet Grupo Q will offer promotional incentives to stimulate sales, including complimentary vehicle maintenance packages, the inclusion of the 2027 marchamo road circulation tax, and exclusive discounts on active demonstration fleet units.

Beyond the corporate marketing strategies, the event shines a spotlight on the deep-rooted personal connections between local vehicle owners and their classic automobiles. Many of the restored vehicles on display carry rich family histories that have survived economic changes and generational shifts. A prime example is Geisel Castro Rodríguez, who has spent the last 11 years preserving a yellow 1959 Chevrolet Apache, a workhorse truck that has accumulated an impressive operational history.

The Chevrolet Apache is a car for life. Mine, which has traveled more than 628,000 kilometers, has its original unrectified engine and retains the original four-speed gearbox, and continues to function perfectly. It even maintains factory details, such as the AM tube radio and the bronze radiator. For me, there is no money that can pay for the feeling of driving a classic like this; it is a vehicle that, after more than six decades, continues to demonstrate the quality with which it was built.

Another focal point of the exhibition is a 1981 Blazer K5 owned by Óscar Rubí Marenco. His connection to the brand traces back to his grandfather, who utilized a Chevrolet truck to transport harvested coffee beans through Costa Rica’s mountainous terrain. This multi-generational relationship with the brand inspired Rubí to purchase his Blazer in 2015, establishing a new family legacy that connects his ancestral history with his daughter’s upbringing.

I bought this Blazer K5 in 2015. It has a very special meaning for our family, as I bought it the same year my daughter was born and, in fact, she says it is hers. For me, this car represents so much that I even decided to tattoo it on my right arm. It is much more than a car, is part of our history.
Óscar Rubí Marenco, Chevrolet Classic Car Owner

Rubí explained that his Blazer K5 still features its factory-standard carbureted V8 engine and original mechanical parts. While the exterior paint was meticulously restored to its authentic light gray and dark gray two-tone combination, the wheels were modernized to suit contemporary road demands. By bringing these stories and machines to the public, the Chevy Fan Weekend successfully transforms a standard commercial showroom into a cultural hub where history, passion, and modern business converge.
