This includes advancing improvements related to the Public Employment Framework Law and strengthening inter-institutional coordination to create a more agile, efficient, and responsive government. Perhaps one of the most significant long-term goals is tackling the deep-seated issue of regional inequality. The government is actively reviewing the country’s regionalization framework, which dates back to the 1970s, to better address territorial gaps and foster growth outside the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM). The objective is to create a more balanced and equitable model of national development.
Costa Rica cannot concentrate opportunities solely in the GAM. The aspiration is to advance towards a more decentralized, digitized, and sustainable development model, where regions have greater opportunities and better conditions for their growth.
