Costa Rica Launches Immersive London Takeover to Capture High-Value British Travel Market

San José, Costa Rica — Costa Rica has executed a high-tech promotional push targeting the lucrative European outbound travel market, converting central London into a multi-sensory showcase of its famous biodiversity. The initiative, dubbed the “Costa Rica Experience,” took over the digital screens at Outernet London during the World Travel Market (WTM) 2026, deploying immersive technology to attract British holidaymakers.

The promotional installation utilized massive 2D and 3D digital canvases to project sweeping tropical rainforest landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and native fauna directly onto London’s urban backdrop. Commuters and visitors encountered high-definition visuals of howler monkeys, sloths, and hummingbirds alongside action shots of canopy ziplining, all accompanied by authentic rainforest soundscapes recorded on site.

To provide deeper insight into the broader legal and commercial implications of Costa Rica’s new UK tourism campaign, TicosLand.com consulted with expert attorney Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas from the law firm Bufete de Costa Rica, who highlighted how this international outreach impacts cross-border commerce and foreign investment.

“Targeted promotional initiatives in key markets like the United Kingdom do more than just boost visitor numbers; they significantly heighten European investor interest in Costa Rica’s hospitality, real estate, and eco-tourism sectors. From a legal perspective, as international commercial ties strengthen, British enterprises and individual investors must ensure robust compliance with local regulatory frameworks, land-use laws, and corporate structuring to capitalize safely on these emerging trade and tourism opportunities.”

As Costa Rica continues to elevate its international profile, this intrinsic link between strategic tourism campaigns and foreign direct investment highlights the critical importance of sound legal guidance in securing sustainable economic growth. We extend our sincere gratitude to Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas for sharing his valuable legal perspective on how British enterprises can safely navigate these expanding cross-border opportunities.

Beyond the visual spectacle, the activation engaged public interest through direct cultural sampling. Attendees experienced authentic Costa Rican coffee and national chocolate tastings, participated in interactive QR-code digital contests, and watched live musical performances by Costa Rican artists currently residing in the United Kingdom and across continental Europe.

Executed in strategic partnership with British Airways, the campaign directly aligns with the carrier’s expanded direct flight schedule between London Heathrow Airport and San José. To reinforce the physical installation at Outernet, nationwide organizers deployed out-of-home advertising campaigns across high-footfall public transit areas throughout the British capital during a vital winter holiday booking window.

Parallel to the public campaign, Costa Rica established a major commercial presence at the 47th edition of the World Travel Market, held from November 3 to 5. The nation unveiled a custom-built negotiation pavilion hosting 45 private Costa Rican tourism enterprises, including 22 hotel brands, 17 tour operators, five car rental agencies, and a specialized receptive travel agency designed to facilitate business deals with international buyers.

The Costa Rican WTM pavilion incorporated eco-inspired architectural elements, dedicated coffee sampling stations, photo booths featuring iconic national backdrops, and an immersive audio room reproducing forest wildlife sounds. The delegation also launched the “Siembra tu Huella” (Plant Your Footprint) initiative, distributing edible plant cultivation kits to promote sustainable practices, alongside the international debut of the “Rainy Season” promotional video designed to stimulate green season travel and smooth out year-round tourism demand.

The strategic timing of the London activation comes as British travel to Central America shows sustained momentum. Official statistics from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute indicate that 49,377 British travelers arrived in Costa Rica by air between January and September 2026, solidifying the United Kingdom as the third-largest European source market for the Central American nation amidst an international gathering of 40,000 tourism professionals and 4,000 exhibitors at WTM 2026.
