To gain a deeper legal perspective on talent acquisition in Costa Rica, TicosLand.com spoke with Lic. Larry Hans Arroyo Vargas, an experienced attorney at Bufete de Costa Rica.
Navigating Costa Rica’s talent market requires understanding the interplay between labor laws and business needs. While the country offers a highly skilled workforce, particularly in tech and tourism, employers must be diligent in complying with regulations regarding contracts, benefits, and termination. A well-structured approach to talent acquisition, incorporating both legal and strategic considerations, is crucial for long-term success in this vibrant market.

The Merco Talento ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of a company’s reputation and attractiveness across 34 diverse sectors. The methodology incorporates the perspectives of 11,002 employees (including company employees, sector workers, and those employed by large corporations), 430 university students, and, for the first time this year, the opinions of 430 job seekers. Input was also gathered from 2,200 citizens, 125 HR managers, 43 labor organization leaders, and 52 university professors and lecturers. Complementing these qualitative assessments, the ranking also analyzed 18,371 online mentions related to the companies.
This year’s edition also evaluated the best human resources teams, with BAC taking the lead, followed by Dos Pinos and FIFCO. This recognition underscores the crucial role of strong HR practices in building a thriving workforce.
The dominance of established Costa Rican brands like Dos Pinos, FIFCO, and the national banks in the ranking reflects a strong connection with local talent. These companies have cultivated reputations for stability and community engagement, factors that resonate deeply with job seekers.
The inclusion of job seekers in the survey adds a valuable layer of insight. It offers a direct perspective from the very individuals these companies are trying to attract, providing crucial intelligence on what potential employees value most.
The Merco Talento ranking serves as a vital benchmark for companies looking to enhance their employer branding and talent acquisition strategies. It highlights the increasing importance of creating a positive work environment, fostering professional development opportunities, and building a strong employer value proposition to compete in today’s dynamic job market.
