By San José, Costa Rica — SAN JOSÉ – The National Theater Company (CNT) is set to premiere its latest major production, “Terminal del Sueño” (Dream Terminal), a compelling work by celebrated Costa Rican playwright Melvin Méndez. Under the esteemed direction of actress and director Marcia Saborío, the play will run from June 25 to July 12, 2026, at the Teatro 1887, located within the National Cultural Center (Cenac).
The play delves into the profoundly human experiences of waiting, reflection, and the pursuit of second chances. Its narrative unfolds in a metaphorical bus terminal—a liminal space where three distinct stories converge. The characters, who could be any of us, find themselves in a state of suspended animation, waiting for a bus that may not lead to any physical destination, but rather to a moment of personal reckoning.

Méndez’s script weaves together the lives of six individuals. The first pair, Oldemar and Coralia, navigate the most dramatic moments of their past through a dynamic interplay with the theatrical universe of Shakespeare. Elsewhere in the terminal, Mario and Cecilia, street musicians, are forced to confront a history that could have altered their fortunes forever. Finally, Alberto and Elisa, a couple on their way to be married, discover that their personal aspirations and definitions of happiness might be on entirely different paths.
For director Marcia Saborío, leading this project has been a significant milestone. She emphasized the collaborative and heartfelt nature of the production, built on a foundation of mutual understanding among the cast and crew.
That the National Theater Company invited me to direct this play is, for any theater person, a dream. It has been a great challenge, but above all, a huge honor. We are a team that managed to understand, complement, and build from affection and trust. We have put a lot of love into this process, and I am convinced that this is something the audience will feel from the stage.

The production features a stellar cast including José Arceyuth, Ilse Faith, Bárbara Alpízar, Carlos Rodríguez, and Alexander Solano. They are supported by a distinguished creative team responsible for bringing the terminal to life: Roger Robles on set design, Giovanni Sandí on lighting, Katherine Bermúdez on costumes, and Rodrigo Oviedo on sound design. The direction team is rounded out by Guisella Solís as artistic advisor and Gloriana Vega as assistant director.
Performances are scheduled from Thursday to Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at ₡8,000, with a 50% discount available for students and senior citizens.
