The centerpiece of the investment is the complete reconstruction of the La Florida school, which will receive more than ₡486 million. For over a decade, its 44 students have attended classes in precarious conditions following severe damage sustained during the Sámara earthquake. The new facility will be a modern educational hub, complete with four classrooms, a cafeteria, a preschool area, new sanitary services, and dedicated housing for a teacher, a critical component for attracting and retaining educators in remote areas.
The project represents the culmination of a long and persistent effort by local educators and community leaders who refused to let their circumstances define their children’s future. The school’s director has been a key advocate for the reconstruction since her appointment years ago, highlighting the power of local perseverance in driving national action.

In addition to the new primary school, the Liceo Rural de Isla Venado (Isla Venado Rural High School) has also received a significant boost. An investment of nearly ₡49 million has been allocated to a series of crucial maintenance and improvement projects benefiting its 71 students. These works included structural repairs, upgraded lighting, fresh paint, and enhancements to administrative areas, creating a more professional and welcoming environment for both staff and students.
A notable addition was the construction of new bleachers for the school’s covered court, providing a proper space for assemblies and community events. For students, the upgrades are more than just cosmetic; they represent a meaningful improvement in their daily lives and mental well-being. The creation of a dedicated guidance counselor’s office, for example, provides a safe and private space for students to seek support.
